Match Day Thread Carabou Cup Final Thread

Well...about time we did one. No not a trophy (although that too) but a thread for a final we realistically look like winning.

There's still a part of me that worries about complacency as I think it's the only thing that will stop us.

Anyway who to start? Weghorst up front? Or Rashford through the middle? Will Rashford be fit? Sancho or Garnacho? Antony driving forward on the right? Or Bruno out there?

Fair to say Casemiro and Fred will start in midfield.

I think I'd like to see Wan Bissaka start. Back 4 of AWB Varane Martinez Shaw please.

The game could go like a dream where we completely dominate, or it could be a grind. I'm hoping we're up for it from minute one and put in a performance like in the second half against Barca.

Some early shots on goal with Karius there would be good.

 

Does concern me a bit that Newcastle have big centre halves, so he might go Weghorst. Hopefully he won't.

Personally think the front three should be Sancho, Rashford and Antony.

Middle three picks itself in Casemiro, Fred and Fernandes.

As does back four for me; AWB, Martinez, Varane, Shaw.

If that eleven starts, we're better then them, surely.

I'm looking fwd to this game... feels like an announcement for us ... not sure which team is under the most pressure I see everyone ruling out this Newcastle side but I wouldn't be so sure.

Need to play like they did before Xmas and you just never know they could have one of those days when everything they hit goes in.

Tbf to you Munse you've been here through the build up. Some of your lot will turn up no doubt if you do win and believe anyone gives a fck what they have to say. You'll be here win or lose no doubt.

Absolutely I will not cry I embrace the defeat .... this is year 1 of newcastle trying to compete... I actually expect the next couple of seasons to see a regress so just going to enjoy it.

 

It's not too different for me tbh. Top 4 was priority and a good cup run so I'll be happy with that as the progress made under TH has been brilliant. Winning it is a bonus even though it's always disappointing getting to a final and not winning, but I genuinely won't be too fussed as I think we've got more to come under TH in coming seasons.

I don't see you regressing tbh. Spurs and Liverpool are more likely to but even they can turn it round if they finish top 4.

 

It's different for us because there's 20 years with little to no investment and zero attempt to market the club outside newcastle..

Newcastle want to get where man united have been for 30 years and the gap is huge.

I'm obviously going to say this but a Newcastle win today would be mean more to us than you guys... it's just another pot for man united.

I have more belief this time than the fa Cup 24 years ago, but I accept odds are on our 5th final loss in row at Wembley.

At the very least we've caused Sunderland fans some serious anxiety issues so I expect they'll come out from under their quilts if we lose...not seem them for months.

I have a feeling the last month our lot have been aware they might not see another final and maybe not giving 100%.

I'm trying to just see this as another game myself because if you build your hopes too high you'll end up feeling worse.

Once the dust settles everyone will be happy they got there and excited for the future.

There's 100k gone down... 35k have tickets the others it's just another weekend on the piss... ie what they do every weekend.

 

Our lot all live there anyway so.........

 

I hope we just go out there and throw the kitchen sink at Man united and I think they will..... despite people labelling this team as time wasters i can assure you it's also capable of some good football and the rough stuff if needed.

Man united I've been watching though and they're definitely favourites.

 

They are time wasters, but there's no real point in playing for a draw in a cup final so I'd hope that's not going to happen today.

Keep the ball in play and try to score more, that's the way to go.

I don't agree not all the time anyway but away vs bigger clubs yes . clubs come to st James and waste time now so the stat is misleading.
