I had an X6 40d for a while, it was quick, unreal torque for a big car. Just screwed the lot down whenever you dumped your foot. I miss it now actually, I prefer a higher ride. I'd probably pick the X5 over another 6 though. There's a few cars at work that I use, an S350 bluetec which is a great car, not as much muscle as the X6 but still perky. Then there's an A200d which is like a little go-kart, a BMW 330d from around 2006 which is ok, and my favourite the black van... it's a Vauxhall combo or something and it's an absolute weapon.
I had a Toyota Hilux a while back, it only had a single cab though and I don't really need a pick up tbh. Was looking for one of those Ifor Williams boot lid things for them as I couldn't leave any of my stuff in the back in case it got nicked.
Am also going to change soon, mainly as I'm sick of being taxed on my company car. I like the car, Mondeo estate, but I'll essentially have a car of my choice bought for me by having my own and taking the car allowance. Way less tax too. Am also more or less settled on the XF, although would like an F Brake preferably. Other options are A6, 3 series tourer and E & C class Merc, as long as they are estate. I really do fancy an XF though. All second hand, haven't got the money for new.
I was given a 520d estate for a while, 2013 model. It was a brilliant car, could sleep a family of 5 in the boot too!
Yeah this thing was no slouch, it had pretty much every extra mind so that helped a bit. If I was being purely selfish and irresponsible I'd get a Focus RS and I think I'd be happy to have that until I was dead... which wouldn't be too long if I had a Focus RS
Yeah that's basically a track car. Almost bought a 520d. Was a nice one, older on an 10 plate, but only had 89k on the clock. It had been remapped to something like 320bhp and had straight through exhaust, egr delete etc. Must have been like **** off a shovel. Went for the Touareg in the end for the space and because I do a bit of muddy track and green lane driving
Get a VW UP. Lovely little car. £20 A year to tax, £35 to fill the tank and you can park it in a shoebox. Fun things to drive too. They've released a GTI version too I think. That little ****er will be so much fun. Basically a turbo go-kart. I have a new (ish) Golf FSI too but I prefer the UP so let the Mrs drive the golf. But like luvvy I'm not really in this discussion...
Wouldn’t have been 320bhp. Not off a 520. They’re only about 160bhp standard. The jag I looked at are 275bhp standard and the remapped was 330bhp.
Volkswagen Up! GTI please log in to view this image It’s not all multi-turbo supercars and seven-figure remakes at The Grand Tour, you know. There’s still room for a good, honest, hot hatchback, especially if it’s one that tips its hat to the godfather of fast hatchery, the Mk 1 Golf GTI. And with its modest power output, compact size and unflashy equipment levels, that’s what the Up! GTI does, as James May discovers on our track. I want one. The standard one is ace so the GTI would be insane!
Also an option. I like and need a big car so that would be ideal. I'm not as fussed on the saloon, it looks a bit like an old guy's car.
Depends which year you buy. They gave it a facelift I think around the 2012 ones. Just get a 525. More poke.
Yeah the 520d I borrowed had done 95k and you'd never have guessed by driving it. Really good cars, after having a few 3 series I was just expecting a bigger version of one of those but it seemed much better.
That'd be my choice if I wanted a big estate. They're ten a penny as well at auction centres due to how many companies lease them.
Neighbour of ours had the version before the current one. Was a lovely car. Better shape than the current one for me, especially the saloon version. I love the look of the 3 series tourer but think it'd be a bit too small for what I want. Which is loads of boot space and room for three kid's in the back seat.
