I've just been reading this on the racingpost https://www.racingpost.com/news/lat...ywhere-and-everywhere-in-title-defence/416686 Do you think Richard Johnson will be defending his title ? Would be nice for the north if Brian Hughes could win this.
Its an interesting article alright, and puts into perspective what AP McCoy used to do. As of today, both Hughes and Johnson have 105 winners. In the 2014-15 season, when McCoy was trying to get to 300 winners in a season, he passed the 100 winner mark in August and he had reached the 150 winner mark by October 15th before a spate of injuries ended his bid.
Johnson is riding at an 18% strike rate this season, Hughes at 21%. McCoy's "worst" season strike rate was 21% in 2005/6. In his final season before retirement he had a 28% strike rate. I can't find any stats for his record-breaking 100 and 150 winners in the 2014/15 season - those records are based on the date on which the milestones were achieved.
