I rang a few agencies yesterday and basically said apply online. It's frustrating and I'm bored. I've got time because of the redundancy.I just don't want to end up in another call.
I got my job by directly emailing a load companies i wanted to work for, despite none of them having advertised vacancies. I got a few interviews from that.
Don't waste the spare time you have Cas. Before long you'll be wishing you had more time to do stuff. Get on that guitar and practice hard and long. I wish I could.
I've got two interviews lined up. One is data entry clerk for mobile phone company processing internet mobile orders and the other one is for ringing social housing tenants booking repairs and servicing.
I imagine for the social housing job they'll be looking for someone that genuinely cares about getting the tenants the services they need, but has personal resilience for dealing with difficult customers (who are likely to have underlying problems which are causing their difficulty so need empathy as well as the caller being calm) Not a sector I work in by the way, so just an independent view
You don't want to work in a call centre, but you have interviews for a mobile phone company and a phone based job dealing with customers? Er. Maybe you do like working with phones after all?
When I started the thread I was employed in a callcentre, but since then I've been made redundant. So my circumstances are a lot different now. The job with the mobile phone company isn't phone job. It's processing internet orders. In the long term I don't want to work in call centre, but short term I need a job.
I'm quite politically minded so I'm quite aware regards to the issues involved in social housing. But yeah you'll need lots of patience and empathy.
What kind of qualifications do you have? You could retrain to do something else? Teachers get paid to train as they go?
Good luck (I didn't intend to be patronising by the way, just trying to be helpful, hope it turns out well)
Are you limiting yourself to finding a job in the UK ? Or even East Yorks ? If not, you may wish to consider emigrating somewhere. UK qualifications are still highly regarded in places like Canada, Middle East and Oz. Even certain European countries. It does help if you're married to or have a relationship with an Oz or Canadian etc, but going over for an extended holiday can open up a lot of opportunities - on all fronts. Anyone you know abroad who can give you sponsorship for an extended stay ? Watching the stuff regarding Brexit etc., if I was over there (and relatively young) it would be one of the options I'd be looking at - even though it may only turn out to be temporary. That's how I did it - no jobs in my field in the U.K , so I buggered off to Canada. Absolutely no regrets. Sterling's advice above is sound - places in the Middle East,Hong Kong and China are always looking for people who are willing to teach English as a second language - requiring only a basic knowledge of the local lingo. Qualifications vary of course. If you're relatively young - say under 30, try thinking outside the box a wee bit, which may be difficult if you're already married and/or have young kids. Just a suggestion. Edit. Good luck by the way - stay positive.
I start the data entry job tomorrow BTW. It's temp until Christmas. But they've already extended the campaign twice.
Four pints of carlsberg and one for the barmaid cost 50 quid in Copenhagen in 2005 when I had the pleasure of watching England get beat 4-1. Worse than that the long trudge back to hotel was extended by my outright refusal to share a horse carriage thingy with codhead Grimsby fans.
There's a warehouse operative job going at Allam Marine if anybody is interested Minimum wage of course
That is an excellent way to infiltrate the ****s business and bring it to it's knees. The right choice of "operative" is crucial. We need someone who has a calm head (a la James Bond) and an unscrupulous nature...I'm thinking Chazz.
