My Secret Santa pressie was Post Wall, Post Square by Kristina Spohr. About the changes in global politics between 1989 and 1992. Brilliant but ****ing scary that this is now considered history.
Carrying the fire: An Astronauts Journey by Michael Collins (Gemini 10 & Apollo 11) The New York Times writer John Wilford wrote that it is "generally regarded as the best account of what it is like to be an astronaut."
The best book by far in 2020 out of over 150 I read was 'The Happiest Man on Earth' by Eddie Jaku. A true story of survival, hope and the importance of kindness. Really apt for these times. Eddie turned 100 last year.
All right, I'll plug my own book again! Oleg the Giant, published by Olympia Publishers. It's available in Kindle, paperback and audiobook formats. You can get it postage free from the publishers or pay for the postage on Amazon. It's aimed at eight year olds. I'm quite excited because one of my textbooks, KS1 Reading SATs Practice Papers for the 2021 test: Year 2, published by Scholastic, reached number 1900 on Amazon Best Sellers list yesterday. That's aimed at seven year olds. There are more for 9,10 and 11 year olds. Great for lockdown practice. Recommended for the Grammar Police on here. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
The Forgotten Highlander by Alistair Urquhart. The true and incredible story of survival during WW2 in the Far East. Just 20 years old, Alistair joined the Gordon Highlanders and was posted to Singapore. In 1942 the Japs invaded and he was taken prisoner and sent to work on the notorious Bridge over the River Kwai, he somehow survived that then his rusting prison ship bound for Japan was torpedoed by an American submarine in the South China Sea, and he drifted for days in shark infested waters, recaptured by the Japs and sent to another prison camp eleven miles from Nagasaki. An incredible well written true story which I read in a day. The Number One Sunday Times best selling book.
It isn't the grammar police you should be recommending it to, it is the ones who need the services of the grammar police to point out their errors.
I've just started Thursday Murder Club, reads a bit like a Midsomer Murders script. I'll persevere a bit longer though, nothing else to do...
You aren't. It is the people who make mistakes who call those kind enough to point these things go out and point them i the right direction pedants.
Very! The Small Faces used him for the second side of the Ogden's album. He talked in between each track. I never liked that side. The other side is really good and I play it a lot. Barchullona will know it.
"Love is like a hole in the wall..." I have it somewhere at home. Probably in the loft with a load of other vinyl. Otis Blue-Otis Redding Sings Soul and Astral Weeks are the first two things I would grab if a fire broke out. The next would be the dogs. Then the wife if she was still inside.
