Spent many years reading James Patterson books, now working my way through the Jack Reacher series. Tom Sharpe with the Wilt books is a great laugh.
Two Thousand Games, A life in Football by Brian Horton. Proper football book written by a proper football man, Brian Horton. Loads of interesting City stuff from his times with us as player manager and assistant coach. His sacking by Dob Robinson is interesting and how Robby tried to get him back. Also what a blob Adam Pearson made in sacking Phil Brown and Horton with nine games to go when we were in the Premier League to bring in useless pratt Ian Dowie. Horton is adamant that he and Brownie would have got the points required to keep us up. A real page turner and a top read written by a top fella.
My husband asks if anyone remembers this article on that Pearson decision. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2010/mar/17/iain-dowie-hull-city-manager
I remember it. The article was correct in saying Hull fans believe a man who has just been managing a ski slope will take City down, and he did. The Dowie appointment was a disaster.
"Alan [Shearer] will be a top manager one day" And it was for this reason that Iain Dowie's career as a clairvoyant took a catastrophic downward turn... Although, to be fair, he saw it coming.
Correct me if I am wrong, but how did AP have any input into Brown getting the tintack, I thought he was out of the club by then!
"In October, Duffen, the club chairman, stepped down and former club owner *Adam Pearson returned. There was much speculation that Pearson would remove Brown from the Hull City hot seat, but after a spirited display in the two-nil loss to Burnley, **Pearson saw enough to think that Brown still had enough to save the club from relegation." *Well I never...Don't recall that!! ** Clearly, didn't work then. Eh, the mad history of HCAFC. Someone should write a book!
Just read Keane, erm, Roy Keanes autobiography in a day. 60p from Dove House charity shop. Great read too, proper football book, not a Manchester United fan myself but this is a real insight into the workings of the club during Ferguson's successful time with them. Keane doesn't hold back either, him walking out on the Irish World Cup Squad under Mick McCarthy and his thoughts on Jack Charlton were worth the 60p alone. I liked Roy Keane by the end of the book when I wouldn't have given him a second thought before reading his story. Sadly not a mention of Hull City in it but Steve Bruce the player came out of it in a good light.
Yep Roy always speaks highly of Sir Steve As does fergie in his books especially the one on leadership. Pity the experts on here can’t acknowledge that as they know better
Anyone ever read Sapiens? Excellent book. My question to you if you have...have you read Homo Deus which is the follow on?
Just read Vinnie Jones autobiography free from a book swap shelf near the bar next to the pool on holiday. Real insight into him. I dislike him more now
I usually try to find something to read when we go on holiday. My favourite type of book is one with a dystopian view of the future like "Brave New World" or "Catch-22" or even "Animal Farm" Read "War of the worlds" recently and enjoyed that. Also read Jack Kerouac's "On the Road." Might have been a classic in its time but it was a tough read. Have enjoyed the 2 Richard Osman crime novels and will probably get the latest one for next time we go away
