Time to caution players for apealling for corners, throw ins, goal kicks, etc when they know full well it's not theirs? Similar to diving. Cheating. Ungentlemanly conduct. Spoiling the game and making the officials job ever harder.
We could use VAR for every time the ball goes out of play, or prohibit players talking (mikes every 5 yards round the pitch ?). Which would work best, or should we use both in tandem ?
Permanent VAR and the ability for refs all round the pitch to throw a flag on to stop play whenever any infringement is spotted might work best And retrospectively if cheating is ever spotted weeks later the whole game should be replayed
Problem is dennis, the bloody flag is a trigger to run 1.5 to 2 mins advertising on the televised broadcasts every time the flags used. It's where the money comes from. That'll add about 3 1/2 hours to the length of a game even if you're watching live at the ground. Shooting any player who makes a comment would reduce it to 1 vs 1 in no time. Quick 5 minutes penalty shoot-out between the two remaining players would mean a decent interlude out of the day before retiring to the pub. The games gone mad
After they've got round to replaying the '66 final. Re-using '66 version VAR technology naturally. Goal-line tech my arse. ! Nowt wrong with the linesman's eyesight at all - although he could have trimmed his eyebrows a bit & stayed off the vodka that morning I forget the ruble/sterling exchange rate back in '66. It obviously was a better deal than the deutsch-mark/ ruble rate ?
Was the difference superior refereeing or better camerawork and hindsight ? Hurst turned away after he shot. Did the other England players influence the officials by their gestures? How did Hurst know he'd actually scored given the inconclusive nature of the evidence ? Maradona's seemed more conclusive, Hurst's is less so. Fine line cheating no ? Who'd want to be a ref or linesman ?
I don’t even know why there’s a discussion over Hurst’s goal, it’s obviously over the line. At least by any standard of the day (eyesight). Maybe today’s 500000fps slow motion cameras might spot the deformation in the ball when it bounces caused the side to remain half a micron over the line. I don’t see how any other decision could have been made at the time.
why not have a cheat of the month on m.o.t.d like goal of the month? subs running on the pitch to kiss and hug scorers should be sorted out too.
