I’ve long given up on Cheltenham antepost until NRNB terms are available. I know it’s cowardly but there’s just too many race options therefore far too much ducking and diving by trainers. Anyway I thought Tizzard’s Amarillo Sky ran with great credit in the Clarence House on Saturday. He’s a decent handicapper and 14/1 NRNB for The Grand Annual looks sporting so I’ll give it a go.
Hearing good reports that this John O'Connell French recruit could be a smart novice hurdler Hypotenus Triumph Hurdle Each Way @ 66-1 [Skybet] NRNB
National Hunt Chase Chavez 40/1 e/w NRNB WH and bet365, 50/1 Lads and Coral (Not qualified yet) Boodles Juvenile Hurdle Perseus Way 14/1 e/w NRNB WH and bet365, 16/1 Lads and Coral
Brown Advisory Loughderg Rocco If getting good ground looks overpriced Each Way @ 33-1 [Bet 365] NRNB
NO. CH is a monster. Although I love Honeysuckle and delighted she won last year's Ch hurdle I believe CH would have won that had he ran in it and nothing can stop him winning this year's, barring accident, off colour etc
No horse is a machine, I truly hope Constitution Hill wins by a serious distance and in great style, but how easy would State Man have beaten the horses CH has this season? That was a very taking performance yesterday, it makes the Champion Hurdle interesting and I do think proclaiming greats happens far too soon with CH. I’ll do it when he hacks up.
I know it is only collateral form but if you look at the form lines through Honeysuckle and Epatante then CH is still a good few pounds (about 9 I think) ahead of State Man - Form which CH demonstrated under a motionless jockey. The only time Nico has got semi-serious with CH was that jaw-dropping performance in the Supreme. State Man was rated 167 prior to yesterday’s race and might get nudged up a pound or two for it but I think CH is capable of at least a stone more than that and hopefully both will arrive at Cheltenham fit and well so that he can show it.
I believe and hope that Constitution Hill will win the Champion Hurdle in the same manner that he won last terms Supreme Novices. However, if there is one horse to take on, based on the stats, it is Lieutenant Henderson's superstar. (i) No horse has won the Champion Hurdle, after winning the Supreme Novices' Hurdle the year before, since Bula in 1971, and (ii) Not since 1981 (Sea Pigeon) has a horse won the Champion Hurdle without a prep run post Christmas.
Interesting stat re the Supreme winner taking the following season’s Champion Hurdle - but I wonder how many have tried? The modern trend seems to be that they go novice chasing. Time for a quick google …..
Was tried as recently as last year. Appreciate It went off as 2nd fav for the Champion Hurdle - 100/30.
Appreciate It was the first Supreme winner to run in the Champion Hurdle since Cinders and Ashes in 2012.
Just reread the above and the Sea Pigeon stat doesn't, of course, relate to Constitution Hill as he won the Christmas Hurdle on St Stephen's Day. The Bula one though is still applicable

Albert Bartlett Step Above Ran two nice races for Lucinda Russell and will improve going up in trip Each Way @ 100-1 [Skybet] NRNB
Ultima Lord Accord 16/1 e/w NRNB bet365 five places, 20/1 Lads and Coral County Merlin Giant 14/1 e/w NRNB bet365 and sky five places both, 16/1 Lads and Coral
Surely now is the time to back Facile Vega at 7/2? You get NRNB with a number of firms, Mullins has confirmed the horse was sore after the last race and hinted that Townend had a brain fart. Will likely be a big Irish gamble and I can see him going off 7/4 as the race will cut up.
