Make a note fellas.... perhaps the best 7lb claimer riding in the UK at the moment... Jonny Peate, attached to Mark Johnston. Rides like a non claiming jockey, has a great clock in his head too. Twice this week he has ridden, so called 'professional' jockeys to sleep...!!!
I was sad to read that Richard(Dickie) Johnson has retired todayA good, honest jockey, strong in the saddle and strong in a finish.Enjoy your retirement Richard... On this same day I was delighted to hear that the owners of 'Black Corton'(Paul Nicholls trained),retired, have gifted the horse to it's regular jockey(Bryony Frost,Daughter of Jimmy Frost)...The Lass is ecstatic and the horse is now free to run in her fields....This goes to prove that some of the ignorant posts on here of late are unfounded and ignorant of the fact that horses, when retired, are not simply destroyed or 'rendered down for glue' as one of our more 'regular' posters would have it!!!!
It would seem it impossible for anyone to say a bad word about RJ. Reading Sir AP's comments he says he would not have been the champion he was had he not been pushed and challenged by him for 17 years as runner up in the championship. When you hear him speak, he's an educated man and his decision today will have been well thought out. I actually have seem it coming for a while. BF will be hoping (I suppose) that when Frodon retires he is sent to her too.

Chapeau. If only Fernando could have heard the drums and got in the bleedin' stalls it could have been even better.
Morning everybody I like Jonny Peate but he has shown his lack of experience lately and one race in particular he was clearly on the best horse but never give the horse a chance by keeping it tucked in on the rail waiting for an opening that never came when he should have been pulling it out into the centre of the track and putting the race to bed. I think he ended up finishing 4th or 5th. Benoit De La (something else) is the jockey that has really caught my eye. He positions his horses so well and seems to get them into the right stride and tempo of the race effortlessly.
I'm not overly keen on flat racing in general due to the above.I tend to focus on big field handicaps and follow jockeys/stables(I bet a lot on Danny Tudhope and the O'meara stable,Tudhope is a fantastic jockey).Split second decisions can cost a punter day in/day out and the lad(Peate) will learn very quickly that if a horse is laid out to win,the owner and trainer won't show too much tolerance too often. That said, they all have to start somewhere and if Mark Johnston takes a punt on an up and coming claimer, his judgement is invariably right. The jumps have always been my favourite discipline and I've been keeping an eye on Paul Nicholls stable claimer,Angus Cheleda, who recently turned pro and currently claims 7lbs.He's a strong jockey in the saddle, seems to have a very good understanding of race riding and looks like he's one for the future.Nicholls has trusted him on some very decent horses and his 7lb claim has proved invaluable on numerous occasions.
