Be lucky 6:30 Kempton, Gobi Sunset - 1pt win 12/1 generally One I tipped last time at Lingfield in the hope that he'd break well and make all. But that obviously never happened as he broke slower than normal and ended up in the rear. But he stayed on to good effect, and with a better break he gave the impression that he might have gone close. That was decent 0-95 handicap and tomorrow's race looks a much weaker 0-80 handicap for apprentice riders, and although there's a big risk taken on this apprentice given that he's only had the one ride, I thought that he looked quite tidy in the saddle when riding for Johnston on 'Asdaa' last time, and with a 7lb advantage against a number of the other apprentices, I think Gobi Sunset could have a lot going for him so long as he breaks better over this shorter 6f. 3:55 pm Wolverhampton - Good Humour 11/8 (3 Points) 4:45 pm Dundalk - Pub Talk 6/4 (1 Point 14.00 Ayr , Limerick Leader 1 point e/w @ 10/1 @ Bet365 , William Hill, Betuk 1/5 @ 1234 places 14:25 Exeter, Voyburg 0.5pt each-way @ 12.00 several bookies (3 places @ 1/5) 13:50 Exeter, Impose Toi 1pt win @ 1.29 several bookies
Been studying but not too sure how much the ground has gone. Its raining there now but a bright day forecast tomorrow... then raining all Wednesday and Thursday... I've had one bet in the Stayers Hurdle on Thursday .. Henri Le Farceur, because someone definitely in the know told me to.
Be lucky fellas 1.30 Supreme Novices Hurdle – Tahmuras (e/w) – ½ Point Each Way - Generally 10/1 Top 4 Places. If Facile Vega bounces back after his flop at the Dublin Racing Festival, then he’s probably the one to beat on soft ground that looks likely to suit him more than Il Etait Temps, his conqueror from last time. That said, he isn’t a tempting price after such a disappointing run. Whilst the Irish have dominated these novice events in recent years, they look beatable this year and the Paul Nicholls trained Tahmuras looks the one to get the home based team off to a winning start. Unbeaten in 3 starts over hurdles, he’s improved a good deal with each outing and looked a classy type when winning the Tolworth at Sandown last time. He showed he handles soft ground very well and the form has worked out well with everything that has come out of the race running very well subsequently. He’ll stay further which will help in what is likely to be a fair test and at around 10/1 top 4 places he rates the bet. 2.10 Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices Chase – Jonbon – 2 Points Win - generally 13/8 It may have been disappointing to see him get beaten so far by stablemate Constitution Hill in last years Supreme, but it seems he came across an aeroplane that day. He’s looked an absolute natural over fences since making his chase debut at Warwick where he made all to win as he liked from Monmiral. Even more impressive at Sandown, especially his slick and efficient jumping when beating Boothill with ease. A slight wobble at Warwick last time when the enterprisingly ridden Calico caught him off guard, but when he got organised on the home straight he showed his class to win comfortably. He’ll be much sharper here and his superior jumping technique gives him a confident verdict over this market rival. 2.50 Ultima Handicap Chase – Fanion D’Estruval – ½ Point Each Way – generally 25/1, Top 5 Places. Has found himself outclassed at the last two Festivals in the Ryanair behind Allaho, so this will be a far easier task, even off top weight. His best form has been shown when he’s encountered a soft surface so conditions will certainly suit and he’s to a fair mark with a further 5lbs claimed by his jockey. A decent run when a staying on 3rd at Wetherby, a big run can be expected with conditions to suit. Nassalam (e/w) – 1 Point Each Way – generally 9/1, Top 5 Places Really interesting now he steps up in trip as he raced as though he’d appreciate more of a test of stamina last time when a staying on 3rd at Cheltenham behind Midnight River. All his best form is when encountering soft conditions, so the recent rain is ideal and he has a nice racing weight. He’s still unexposed over fences, especially over a trip and if that see’s further improvement he’s a massive player. 3.30 Champion Hurdle – Constitution Hill Can’t advise a bet here as Constitution Hill is rightly an extremely short priced favourite. Hopefully a case of sit back and enjoy him. 5.30 National Hunt Challenge Cup Chase – Gaillard Du Mesnil – 1 Point Win - generally Even Money. The class act here and it’d be hard to see any of this opposition finishing 3rd in a Brown Advisory, as he did last season behind L’Homme Presse and Ahoy Senor. Decent enough efforts behind Mighty Potter on two occasions this season, he won albeit a weak Grade 1 in between those runs at Leopardstown, where he was strong at the finish over 3 miles, winning by 7 lengths. The runner up in that race would probably be 2nd Fav here if it were running. This looks his for the taking. Staking Plan: Standard bets are 1 point win or 1/2 point each way, unless otherwise advised for large staked bets.
Utterly ****e so far! 16:10 pm - Echoes In Rain Each Way 12/1 16:50 pm - Risk Belle Each Way 14/1 17:30 pm - Chemical Energy Each Way 10/1
Really interesting (for me at least) comparing the Champion Hurdle and The Supreme. Constitution Hill's time was only 3 tenths of a second quicker that Marine Nationale though carrying 3lb more. Off set that with it was only MN 5th total race (2 of which we're NHF races) and CH's 6th race all over hurdles. Next years Champion betting 4/5 CH 8/1 MN though they are 5/1 joints for the Arkle...
Heart ruled head with Jonbon. Placed in a couple of races. Watching brief on Constitution Hill, and got a few shillings back with Gaillard du Mesnil. Onwards to tomorrow
