From otib "For what it's worth, I've heard rumours about blue as the away kit but no evidence. At the last FAN meeting I asked Andrew Billingham to reassure that it wouldn't be blue and he refused to comment. The feedback from FAN members after I asked that question was quite strongly that blue would be unwise and unwelcome. Quite what it says about supporter consultation that Bristol Sport weren't prepared to engage with FAN over the colour or give any feedback as if it were a trade secret I'll leave the reader to decide. " Supporters trust. Be sad day if it happens. No need for it at all. City are Red Roves are blue.
I cant see a problem with it. Man U used to occasionally play in an all dark blue strip. In fact I reckon that they wore that strip when the beat Benfica to win the European Cup for the first time at Wembley in 1968.
Posted 2 hours ago · Report post I'm pretty sure I heard a member of the City staff on Saturday laugh at the idea of having a blue kit when questioned. Make of that what you will. Hope this means that blue will be no where near our away shirt. When was the last fan meeting by the way? Hopefully they quickly found out blue kit would cause outrage and make them change their mind
But some fans would. I would take a dim view of it. I have never seen Bristol City play in blue. Why change? I would not buy a blue kit for my son. I would fear what might be said to him in the playground.
Might be just rumours, but Bristol Sport should be told straight. Outrage might be protests bad feeling when they should be getting fans onside.
I can't see it matters what colour our 2nd strip is. Personally I liked us playing in all white like we did in the late 60's and early 70's, or the white shirts with black shorts and socks. Wasn't so keen on the purple shirts and lime green shorts though.
Why would you do something like that just for the sake of controversy? We don't play in blue, our rivals do.. there are plenty of alternative options not to choose blue!
As long as it's not blue and white quarters I really don't care. I remember a special one-off kit that was released for a JPT final which was mainly gold with a bit of blue in it - there was uproar about that. Plenty of clubs other than Rovers play in blue that we get on ok with (Reading, Peterborough) and plenty of teams that play in red we don't (Swindon, Forest) so I don't really get any massive depression about it. Out of personal preference I prefer either the white or the black, but white could be associated with Leeds or Preston or Derby - so what?
A long old time ago I know but City played in blue in our one & only appearance in the F A Cup Final!
If it's a solid dark blue with no other colours then yeah, why not. Would have no likeness to the tramps down the road. I want purple and lime to come back though! Ridiculous how we didn't keep it and identify ourselves with it after that remarkable double winning season.
Also in three FA Cup ties in 1950's. Borrowed Rovers blue and white quarters kit twice to play Rotherham and Accrington Stanley and Cardiff City kit to play Blackpool. Total of five games including two replays. I also remember a pre-season practice match when Reds played Blues. In bygone days the only public pre season match allowed was a public parctice match usually first team against reserves. The home and away kits were used so as blue was used, it's pretty certain that seasons away kit was blue shirts and white shorts. About 1953 to 1956. Can't remember exact year. If new away kit is going to be blue, I suspect more likely to be navy blue as per Bristol Rugby.
Because its blue. A colour not associated traditionally with Bristol City for one hundred years. Its is the colour of Bristol Rovers. As for purple and lime. Its a gimmick. A cheap gimmick, but that is what marketing bods do. Blue would be the cheapest most tawdry gimmick of them all. There are other colours to carry on being less cheap with.
What winds me up is when teams play in an away kit where there is clearly no colour clash. Wolves played in a blue kit, not that Old Gold clashes with Red. Brighton play in blue but didn't against us. We are as guilty having played Blackburn away in our away kit, but I dont think we do it as frequently as others. I know some away kits have been sponsored by a different company to the home but cant otherwise see the need of this. In a home match, its nice to see the team you are playing in their traditional kit. I lose count of how many times we appear to play a team in yellow
