And when no one makes an offer, that contract ends and he leaves for nothing. No one is going to pay a transfer fee for someone at this stage of his career.
I think you're sort of missing my point. If we want him to stay we should offer him a new deal. If we don't want the club captain who is playing every game this season to stay on for another 12 months then I question the judgement of the owners. If you disagree with me doing so then fair enough.
I'm fine with all that. In my original response I highlighted the bit about leaving for nothing for a reason - that was the bit that made no sense.
And my point was about the fact if we want a player to stay we shouldn't be allowing them to leave for nothing, whether that's Dawson or anyone else. The fact the club captain has no clue if he'll be offered a new deal with about 8 months to go on his deal is frankly embarrassing, whether you think we'd get a transfer fee for him or not.
I question your logic. My point was that many have been disillusioned with his game (funnily enough, I spoke out for him a couple of months back), so can we use his wages for another up and coming player? Why should a coaching role be created for him in a limited budget club? He needs to look towards his own future, just as we all do.
My logic? You honestly think that the club is doing the right thing in running down Dawson's contract and letting him leave for nothing in the summer? Plenty of older players go for fees - West Ham were pretty willing to pay a fee for Defoe in January for instance. If he's got one year left on his deal I'm sure we could get 500-1m for him from someone. I just don't understand the club's philosophy on contracts and never have. Also, if you think that creating a coaching role will break our budget then I think you need to take another look at our accounts.
I'm not so sure that is the path he will take, he is increasingly getting in on media jobs, and he invested in a company in recruitment, which he says that when he hangs up his boots this is something he might get involved with. http://www.nottinghampost.com/news/business/ex-nottingham-forest-star-michael-144775
The club has a budget, whether you and I like it or not. Dawson has been a good player and, as I have argued previously, it is unfair to burden him with forced errors from a shambolic defence; but we have seen some marginal improvement in that recently. Personally I think it is time to rebuild and CB is a critical position were that is now of critical importance; if we have ambition then I don't believe Dawson fits the bill, sad, but all good things come to an end. Are you aware of some demand for the services of Dawson, as there was for Defoe from Bournemouth? If we were to create coaching roles for every player that posters, such as yourself, feel deserve it, we would have more coaches than squad members. Sentimental nonsense and I would suggest you might need to not just look at our accounts, but also try understanding how managing them works.
I suspect he's just pleased to get a chance somewhere, he's been without a club for fifteen months now.
It's a real shame to see how far he's dropped - until his ACL injury he looked the best young prospect we'd had in years, his pace with balance was breathtaking at times. Good luck to the lad, I hope he gets somewhere near his best.
He looked really good immediately after returning from that injury too, but for whatever reason his form soon dipped and never recovered.
I predict that before the end of January 2019 Lincoln will have sold Stewart for a seven figure sum. He’s a really decent player that totally lost his way, but he can regain his form by starting again at a lower level.
