Such a shame. Ranieri knows how to ride the crest of a wave and keep a Team going when it's on the right path, but knows nothing about how to dig a team out of a crisis. Right man last season considering the end to Pearson's reign, but wrong man this season once the inevitable slump hit. Leicester fans may be glad he's gone if they see it as the best chance of survival, but surely they cannot slag him off. I believe the Leicester owners are actually quite decent people and will not have taken the decision lightly. Ranieri gave us all hope that there is no such thing as impossible and will be remembered in England as the only manager in recent memory to win the league and remain dignified and popular.
It's not the game itself that's rotten, it's the unfettered commercial exploitation of the game that is destroying all that's good in it. Same as with the **** brits thread, as soon as the acquisition of wealth becomes the primary driving force, any more human qualities are trampled. The game (and great music) will still be there long after the parasites have switched their attention to a new target.
Didn't go then? Jak didn't even have to move in the first half, second half they came at us and we caught them on the break. It was hardly the Alamo for 90 odd minutes. I think we fully deserved to win, there was nothing lucky about it.
I understand what you are saying , but can't fully agree. The fundamental game of football might be recognisable, but not the one I have been brought up with. It is easy to take a look at the higher echelon of football and say it is there, and there only, that football is spoilt by money and it's manipulative effects; but, depending on your opinion, the same can be said for grass roots - and I include everything down to children's football, where money now speaks loudly, rather that social and community bonds. It's all of mini-reflection of the top tiers. We have seen the game changed to become almost non-contact (okay, a bit of an exaggeration, but ..) to protect the investments rather than the players. The game, in my opinion, struggles to fend off the commercialism of Sky and the exploitation of overseas wealth. Rules and technology change in the game, not for the benefit of the game or the players (well rarely), but, if you listen to the calls, from all quarters, because of the financial penalties poor decisions can mean. The question is not whether or not that is happening, but whether or not you can continue to support it; as sure as eggs, the character of the games is gradually changing due to the money involved.
I think much depends on getting their goalscorers firing as they were, but the same can be said for a number of teams. It is still a long season to be played.
I'm not convinced Chazz, there just seams to be a rot that has set in. Before Marco came here we were at least playing well without the results. Leicester have hit the buffers.
Football is ruthless, but the fact of the matter is that they were going down. Now they might not. So it makes total sense. I know the achievement last year was incredible, but you don't decide to just give in the year after and take a relegation on the chin because of that past success, you'd have to be very naive to think that. You want both, otherwise why bother? They've made the right decision (for them, not for us) and they'll probably stay up now as their squad is mid-table quality IMO. Sunderland, Palace & 'Boro to go down.
Party... I think that even the Leicester supporters agree that their squad is a million miles from a mid table side... They still have Hull City, Palace and Sunderland to play.... they'll be lucky to get anything out of this games... they've still got Manchester City, Tottenham, Everton, Liverpool on Monday (they could conceivably be bottom on Monday night!!....) what I'm saying is, that they are on full tilt and no one is going to give them an easy time of it.... What if they beat Sevilla 1-0 and go through, wheres the focus then..!! Hope you're right about the ones going down however backed that combo at 24/1....
Disagree, it's got some very decent quality in it. Defence is **** as we know. They've made the right choice, unfortunate though it is, but it's every man for himself down there and I think they'll stay up now. If he'd stayed, I think it would have been relegation. Think their owners see it the same way, therefore a necessary decision. Lots of bizarre and (I think) forced hysterics on Twatter from ex-pros/pundits on this which I think is rather cringe, and will be brushed aside when they stay up fairly comfortably.
