They are not essential in the height of a pandemic, but yes I get it at other times. There is no appropriate fashion anymore, put the onus on the protest organisers, if a protest turns to violence make them pay, because it is obvious in this day and age that even 'vigils' can turn into violence because they are hijacked by red nazi's. If organisers cannot guarantee it won't descend into violence then cancel it. It's also about time politicians instead of (like some people) believing the footage they see within in minutes of it being posted on social media, wait until the truth comes out before condemning the police and support them. It also doesn't help when a useless self serving mayor proclaims Bristol as the city of protest.
When you enter Ashton Gate or Alton Towers or a supermarket or theatre or cinema or any public place, you know that that place legally should have public liability insurance. Make it law that any organiser of any protest has to have public liability insurance in place for that protest, if they don't then no protest to be allowed.
FFS if evidence was ever needed of the vile sub human scum these people are, here it is. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/...hIOUGcDB9TGfFIhpiHiPR37ujzcZAryRB0bePuKpPY7qM
As with Football supporters intent to causing trouble and violence are banned from all football matches , these scum protesters should receive the same punishment. Losing their right to ever protest again.....tag them I say. Including those that deface monuments & statues that belong to those Cities. Too much pussyfooting around if you ask me. The law needs to be a lot tougher for these people, allowing those capable of protesting in a peaceful & lawful way in which they have a democratic right.
It doesn't help when there is encouragement from some labour MP's and one today refusing to condemn the rioters on politics live and Momentum Bristol tweeting that the police started it and of course our useless self serving mayor calling Bristol the city of protest. No wonder labour will never get elected, Starmer needs to get a grip of his crappy party.
Labour MP Nadia Whittome has just refused twice to condemn the rioters FFS, Starmer needs to take a look at the polls and start expelling some of his nutters.
All of those, involved with the criminal damage to Colstons statue should have been punished and banned from ever protesting again. Instead, most have got off scott free, demonstrating it seems, that it's ok to break the law when ever it suits......IMO it goes back to the cotton wool education & society that we now have upon us..
Common sense and respect have disappeared down the toilet in the U.K. and it's a shame that some of these protesters didn't go with it. We need to stop pussy footing around with these idiots and send them a clear message that we will no longer accept this type of public disorder and they will be treated as such. The big problem is that it will continue because they don't give a moose fart about their impact on regular law abiding members of the public. What the heck has happened to the country since my departure because all I see is dissent and hatred being bandied around at most levels of English society only to be met with apathy and second guessing as to whether it is politically correct. The hammer needs to come down hard and these fools who will never quit their self centred evil ways have to be treated with the contempt they deserve.
I thought Bristol was one of the safest Labour seats in existence? Safer than the northern ‘red wall’!! Any other party may as well not bother campaigning in Bristol - the privileged home of the champagne socialist!!
I meant elected as in government, they can only win in big city's. Marvin Rees and his socialist republic of Bristol.
really starting to think theres a case for 24 hour courts sitting at times like these, with power to dish out mandatory 3 month sentences and then tagging on release untill the emegency is deemed to be over, if they lose benefits, university places, and other privaliges so much the better,
A VERY SAD EVENT, it sort of highlights what was said in the past 10 or months, about the softee attitude of the police in Bristol that made it the main target for the extreme criminal element to get their revenge on the police. ONE WOULD THINK BRISTOL WAS THE ONLY PLACE TO HOLD A PROTEST! … it was not .. there were quite a few, but the intent on physical violence toward police and property was aimed at the likely softest target... BRISTOL.
My thoughts and best wish's go out to the 21 officers and their families who were victims, hopefully they will all recover physically and mentally as it must be quite a traumatic experience.
with just 8 arrests to date and a bit vague whether one [two ] of these is being held for the attempted murder of the 2 police officers who were in the van when it was set on fire or not. Whilst wearing masks a lot of other "items" have ben so far gathered. Most days police vehicles go through a wash … and a number of the perpetrators have left prints on the higher sections of the vans! AND on the shields …. ! it is good that some people will hand in their films pics etc also the centre is home to dozens of CCTV and some very HD! just because they came from outside of Bristol doesn't make them safe from being ID'd … and hopefully the arrest total will slowly rise over the next month or so!
I’ve noticed a few pics being shown on Facebook, hopefully will help police identify a few.. unfortunately most will get away scot free.. sad world
Coming from my mum and dad who set up CND in Chepstow we were brought up on protest. I agree that peaceful protest are good for the country. I just think that during the pandemic the organisers ought to postpone them until it’s over. We are really close to this lockdown ending and unless we’re lucky we may see another spike pushing us back into lockdowns.
Fair play to your parents, I have never been on a protest march in my life, but I respect the people who believe and practice peaceful protest. Sadly such protests seem to be like most things that require respect and observing the law of the land, a thing of the distant past. It comes to something when even a vigil for a murdered woman is hijacked by anti democrats.
As Kenny Everett used to say 'I'd round 'em all up, put them in a field, and bomb the bastards' The only plus side to come out of the disgraceful scenes in Bristol is that it's cemented the need for the bill to be passed and come into law asap. So they've actually shot themselves well and truly in the balls by their actions. And with Police officers being injured you can bet that they will want to hunt down and bring the idiots causing the mayhem to justice and fair play too. When that happens, I'd like to see the perpetrators serve long jail terms of at least 5 years and be fined as much money as possible. They should also be tagged when released for another 5 years. The namby pamby attitude of the liberal voice allowing such events and not to offend or upset those hell bent on social unrest has caused all of this over the last 30 or more years.
And the ****tards that set alight to the police van with police officers in it must be charged with attempted murder.
