I don't really remember the ones I don't like. Roy 'chubby' Brown always struck me as utterly unfunny. I used to really like Eddie Izzard but he gradually became more and more unfunny. But I remember the ones I like. I'll see if I can have a pop at a new thread. Ps. Good shout on Coogan. He was good in 24 hour Party People, but funny? Nah.
I love Billy Connolly. He's the only stand-up comedian, the others are comic actors. I used to see Billy back in the sixties when he was a folk singer with the Humblebums, doing funny introductions.
Like many comics I haven't found funny for decades, Billy Connolly may have been funny back in the early days. Comedians in this context is intended as an umbrella term for supposedly funny people. Otherwise the thread title would have got a bit too long... There aren't many stand up comics I don't think are funny at all. Most have their moments. Harry Hill though I can only take for a few minutes at a time. Ronnie Corbett and Ernie Wise were not particularly funny as individuals in my view, but were great with their comedy 'other halves'. That sit-com Corbett did (Sorry) I thought was truly awful.
Not funny ha ha, but funny peculiar. On the Addicks related theme, I kind of liked Jim Davidson for a while back in the 1980's, but his brand of humour seems very dated now and pretty dodgy in some regards. Some of the things Les Reed put in his match day programmes made me laugh out loud though.
Friend of mine was at school with Jim Davidson, said he was funny then, used to imitate the teachers.
Cleese is joining UK TV (anti-woke right wing telly for white people, so I've heard) Funniest thing he's done for years.
His hotel commercials are bang average (like the hotel) but not as excruciating as the ones Cleese did for a supermarket - Sainsbury's was it? Dawn French with her Chocolate Orange ads just made every Christmas worthwhile back in the day. I did like Ade Edmondson's voice-overed Peperami ads though
Paul Merton can be very funny on HIGNFY when he's on form. Not Going Out ha so many one liners I love it, and Would I Lie to you. Matter of taste I suppose.
I finally saw the Stan and laurel film at the weekend. Really enjoyed it, though a bit sad at the end. Very much worth a look for a quiet sunday afternoon.
