The one problem with this thread is where do we actually post our comments? If we take only the games against the 14 teams we played last year who were not promoted or relegated we are 2 points up on last season Against all teams we are 2 points down I think the results against the 14 give us a better objective view of where we are I still think we can pull clears but best we can hope for is 15th or 16th
Surprisingly we are only 2 points down on 2016-17 season against the teams we've so far played this season.
Had a good old go at this, this morning, NZ. Fascinating stuff. The upward trend on the second chart is interesting, and illustrates how atypical this season is. I like looking at who has played in which matches and finding patterns in the data. Even if the patterns spotted in each chart are not absolutely causal, they do interest me. Thank you for doing this.
Since Deeney’s return, in games he has played more than an hour in: We lost in a much tighter game against Leicester than the 0-2 suggests. We drew 0-0 with Palace, and he should’ve had a penalty to win that if Atkinson had been half awake. He played 90 mins in a creditable performance against Liverpool. He played 90 mins and scored one in our 2-0 win over Man Utd. He played 80 mins against Sheffield United and his leadership killed the threat they have otherwise shown so far. Today, he played 90 mins and scored two against his beloved Villa in what is reasonable to describe as a ‘six-pointer’. Pearson great, yes. But don’t underestimate the power of Deeney.
Deeney is the heartbeat of our team Pearson understands this and plays two fast players along side him so he is not fighting a lone battle up front
Dead right. The tweaking of Gerry’s position is smart. Hope Hughes is OK - he is also so integral to our success.
Sarr could be one of our better signings if he keeps improving as he has since getting a run in the first team
Ten points from the last four games; nine points from the first 17. Four wins, three when down to ten men.
