Right you lot, there is a perfectly good Transfer Rumours thread waiting for your pearls of wisdom. This one, as the title strongly hints at, is to discuss our latest actual signing. Anyway, Terry Paine.
It's what Captain Haddock says in the original Tintin books. A better English translation would be "Billions of blistering blue barnacles!"
Well done Sotonsaint, as always I’m relying on you to keep our expectations grounded! Keep up the good work
I think Diallo will become one of the best players we have bought in a long time. There's everything to like about him and seemingly no negatives at all. He might look a little slight in build but he is very quick, has great vision, looks to attack when he can and his defensive work is excellent. I really like him and looks to be a perfect fit in the team. We really are seeing the effects of having such a brilliant manager and Diallo is going to be an important part of what Ralph is building in the years ahead. Things couldn't look much brighter.
There was another French African as well wasn't there?, forget his name and which club he played for.
I think it was Ibrahim Sangaré who was our first choice. Joined PSV in the summer. No idea how he is getting on mind you.
I think he is an absolute gem. I mentioned this a couple of weeks back, but if a 21 year old lad came through our academy and started playing like Diallo is, not only would we be raving about him 24/7 but the media would be throwing out the "next Bale/Walcott/Chamberlain" line and no doubt he would be looked at by all of the top clubs in the league. Diamond of a player and so hard to believe he is 21!
It's funny isn't it? Diallo was rumoured to be our third choice, but he's turned out to be a brilliant signing. Our best signing in a long time. McKennie was doing well in Germany and is (maybe was) a better player, but he arguably would have had more of an ego given the clubs who were in for him. Would he have been as committed to us? Diallo is a good example of how a player who isn't that well known is actually a better signing for the club because he has to work more for it, if that makes sense?
