In all official competitive games, Conte's head-to-head record against Wenger is: Played: 5 Won: 1 Drawn: 1 Lost: 3 To be fair, in the one game they did beat us (3-1 at Stamford Bridge last season), Chelsea comprehensively outbattled and outperformed us. But we were going through a bad patch anyway. Aside from that game, we've more than held our own against them in the other 4 matches. For all of Wenger's flaws, in addition to his dire record against the other big teams, he's managed to get the better of a contemporary, multiple league-winning manager like Conte more often than not. I was just wondering why you guys think Conte's Chelsea have struggled against Wenger's Arsenal. My own personal view is that, whether it's intentional or unintentional, Chelsea's players don't appear to press us on the ball in the same way that Spurs/Liverpool do. This allows us the space to spray the ball, break the lines when possible, yet also keep a good shape that is hard to break down. What do you guys think?
Yeah - Conte sets up his side against Arsenal the same way he does for all teams.(In other words he doesn't apply Arsenal specific tactics) Those in the know like Mourinho, Ferguson etc.. will play two deep midfielders and hit us on the beak with pace down the wings. The key to beating Arsene's side is to exploit the space left by the ultra high back line.
Was quite an interesting stat about for managers in Europe over their last 100 league games. Conte was top by some was with your Ancelotti's and so forth behind him but Arsene was in the top 6 (off the top of my head). Weird.
Conte shows Arsenal too much respect. We lay off too much. Against Arsenal you go at them, if you are a better side and they will crumple like a cheap suit. Stand off and let them play and they will punish you.
Some tactical analysis of the 0-0 game. Found it quite interesting, although in the context of the game, I don't necessarily agree with the video title.
