I've spend a lot of time in Italy, over the last decade.

They're a tightly knit bunch with 3, sometimes 4, generations in the same house. The villages are tightly packed with row after row of houses packed on top of each other. As you say there are lots of old people living at home, not safely confined to care homes.

Places like Naples should've been wiped out because of their culture ...

... yet, here we are, being shown up by Italy.

They have land borders with other infected countries yet we had a huge moat to protect us

Sadly a lot of those people's colour is white.
