Agree with most of this, by sort of drip feeding this most sensible people could see what was going to happen and it wasn't a complete bombshell when announced

What baffles me is this ‘key workers’ thing.

We’ve been classified as such, which I understand as people need to remain informed, have web access and news access etc, but then, it’s fine for those of us on that list to be openly placed under increased risk?

I’ve had concerns for a few days now about still working in a 9 story building with shared facilities, we are about to hit an Italy style mushroom, how can 1,000 plus people in a building not be a massive risk?

We all then have to travel to work and have contact with friends and family, creating a massive circle of risk, if it’s not safe to be around others, that should be black and white, not ‘you’re ok though’.

There’s no logic in doing anything if we aren’t doing everything, it needs complete clarity as soon as possible. I’ve refused to visit my parents this weekend, it’s Mother’s Day bit my dad has had historic cardio and breathing issues, I won’t take that risk. Yet it’s fine to go into a work building with thousands of folk who’s hygiene and history I have no clue of?

I don’t get how they can pick and choose, I’ll continue to work for as long as I’m required cos that’s my nature, but if I came away with something, and passed it in, I’d want somebody held accountable.

I’m sure I’m not the only one of us in this mind boggling position.

    It's for locksmiths mate ...

... if someone like me gets locked out of the drinks cabinet there could be thousands of casualties.

    Hooe that clarifies the situation.

I’ve been subconsciously buying a bottle or 2 of drink all week, I just actually did a count and there’s 9 litres there.

If I’m going down I’m going down pissed out of my skull singing Stone Roses lyrics.

I've liked your post but it's not really the appropriate action. That second article is both terrifying and heartbreaking. I'm actually a bit scared now for the first time. I'm already working from home, I think I'll do one big shop over the weekend and then completely self isolate. I'm technically in a vulnerable group, although I don't really feel vulnerable, but it's not worth the risk.

It actually amazes me that we're letting anyone out, doing normal jobs. I appreciate things such as supermarkets and NHS etc having to stay open, but as an example, my company operates in wealth management (financial services, so "key workers") - we have a massive backlog of people trying to get access from home sorted because IT don't have the capacity to handle all the requests, and in the mean time low level clerk's doing what is little more than data entry are in the office every day (9 floors with 200-300 people on each normally). Doesn't seem right to me after reading that.

You're right not to see your parents mate I'm doing the same thing. It will eventually blow over but until it's contained and there's meds to counter it there's absolutely no need to be cavalier about it.

The guilt any of us would feel from passing it on to vulnerable people isn't worth the social interaction, not when you've got Skype etc.

After an interesting discussion, with a family member in the Chopwell area, I made a list of 'at risk' relatives ...

... it was easily into double figures.

It doesn't surprise me, I think the "at risk" list probably covers about 1 quarter of the nation. Then if you look at Italy and South Korea, healthy, young people are getting it too.

It's just about responsibility really. Strangely, it's not even myself that I'm that concerned about, I'm anxious about the risk I am to everyone else. For example, I live in a Blok of apartments, any of my neighbours could touch doors that I have. I couldn't get to a hospital without an ambulance. I suspect that being vulnerable means I'd likely have more than just "mild" symptoms which would mean that I'd be taking up a bed, a doctor or a nurse that some other sick person could have. If I contracted this because I wasn't taking it seriously, I'd find it hard to live with myself (if I survived).

The amount of ‘young and healthy’ people in intensive care in the US blows that one to bits.

We’ve been misinformed, at best, lied to at worst.

This is not harmless to anyone, it’s a ****ing killer and we are still roaming the streets.

I've just had a WhatsApp chat with Mr Tonna who some of you may remember from the start of the FPP saga.

He has a huge pharmaceutical research company so quite clued up. Anyway, I thought I'd post the relevant bits for what it's worth, it reassured me a little.

[21/03, 07:42] Fabrizio TONNA: All this mess of Covid-19 is becoming a real craziness. In italy politicians are demonstrating all their incompetence and idiocy.
[21/03, 07:45] Fabrizio TONNA: All borders closed here in Switzerland, in Italy people are forced to stay at home and blocked on the streets. Government act without any knowledge and journalism only lie and make disinformation.
[21/03, 07:47] Fabrizio TONNA: It is a disaster. I've moved my son and ex-wife in Liechtenstein by an helicopter and a private escort. Impossible to confide in the State. That's the result of european republics, they are not able to see beyond their nose.
[21/03, 07:54] Fabrizio TONNA: thank you very much friends. Yes I'll keep in touch. I'm also sure that soon all of this will change on better as the virus, as all viruses, will mutate in a less aggressive and less active form.
[21/03, 07:57] Fabrizio TONNA: Unfortunately, news channels are politically manipulated so it is difficult they say truth
[21/03, 07:58] Fabrizio TONNA: I only hear from scientific updates and bulletins that arrive to the press office at our company

I'm right there with you mate, up until I read that report about Italy I was more aware than most due to having a wife working in A&E but yes, for the first time last night I can honestly admit I was scared! Combining those reports together, if the one about UK is true then I truly fear about this country when it really takes hold!

As for key workers, I am now considered one due to working offshore! I'm due off my rig on 31st March and fully anticipate the country being in lock down (Boris is 100% doing this in stages so the country doesn't go in to mass panic) so how I am expected to get home is beyond me. Potentially no flights, trains and if in lockdown, no hire car companies open... My wife has prepared herself for a 10 hour round trip bless her, on top of working all the hours she can at Sunderland Royal!

Cheers mate, she's proper down in the dumps with everything going on and for the first time in a long time she's really wanting me home ASAP. Don't get me wrong, she usually wants me home (I think :emoticon-0140-rofl:) but in the current climate it's effecting her massively.

I've told her many times in the past I couldn't do what she does and now we have this **** to deal with my respect goes out to NHS staff even more. Absolute legends and overworked and underpaid for it.
