A number of our family of all ages have health conditions and some have been fully shielding.
Having analysed all the science and the new guidelines there is no way I would support my family loosening their self protection.. The risk is way to high.. Higher in fact than when we started lockdown.
Thr Govt have clearly decided for non medical reasons to ease restrictions as the NHS csn cope. So it is not safe... just we have enough hospital capacity for people getting ill and potentially dying.. Shocking...

Deputy CMO Jenny Harries must inhabit a strange world. When asked how people responding to calls from contact tracers would know that they weren't being scammed, she replied "it will be obvious...they'll sound professional."

I've no idea what a professional accent sounds like - is it anything like Wayne Rooney or David Beckham? Or a highly experienced professional scammer?

Not sure that the figures are correct, but serious questions about policies in the UK need to asked.

 

Truly incredible that Brexiters are so desperate for something to cheer, that a car plant remaining exactly as it is, is being heralded as a massive Brexit bonus.

Btw Nissan have stated they intend concentrating on other markets and not Europe. Which leaves the sustainability of Sunderland largely in hands of Renault. A no deal outcome sees a 10% tariff on the cars they make, of which around 70% are exported to mainland Europe. So let’s see what transpires when that reality hits.

Public trust in the UK government as a source of accurate information about the coronavirus has collapsed in recent weeks, suggesting ministers may struggle to maintain lockdown restrictions in the aftermath of the Dominic Cummings affair.

According to surveys conducted on behalf of the University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute by YouGov, less than half of Britons now trust the Westminster government to provide correct information on the pandemic – down from more than two-thirds of the public in mid-April.

“I have never in 10 years of research in this area seen a drop in trust like what we have seen for the UK government in the course of six weeks,” said the institute’s director, Rasmus Kleis Nielsen.

Hancock says that 111 deaths is the lowest since the lockdown began.

Even the 111 is not accurate unless you change the method of adding historic deaths. 445 that had not been reported has been added to yesterdays figures, rather than todays which has been done in the past.

We now have gone past 39,000 deaths when 20,000 was going to be a good result. Have we got to the rather more than a poor result yet? Wonder what the number needs to be for a bad result?

 

Update: following hospital data today, a cautious estimate of the number of UK excess deaths linked to coronavirus up to 1 June is

64,000

Us Brexiteers had a good chuckle about Nissan closing plants in the EU to save the more productive Sunderland site. Many whinging remoaners had wrongly forecast the closure of Sunderland with some glee. Presumably to teach those Geordies a lesson for backing Brexit so well. The Tynesiders clearly backed their productivity and quality against those in the EU.

I note you completely swerved the main part of my post about the future of the Sunderland plant. Funny that, but also #standard for your sort, who simply ignore anything that doesn’t suit your twisted agenda and clap like seals at massive ‘successes’ like a business staying as it is - for now.

 

I think it would be far more interesting to know if SH agrees with Johnson or the person who he has often talked about as being a great parliamentarian Peter Bone. Bone is quite clear that Johnson should sack Cummings, but it would appear that that Johnson, for whatever reason, is frightened to do so. Perhaps SH would like to discuss the two opposing opinions, and say why Johnson is leaning so heavily on a disgraced advisor.

 

As there will be a10% tariff on EU cars in the event of a no deal it is understandable that car manufacturers will want to concentrate on the UK market by producing here. This will also include the numerous supporting companies being located in the UK instead of the current vulnerable supply chains. There will also be many tariff free deals with a host of other countries. This will increase the attraction for cars from Asia rather than from the EU. The Germans must be extremely worried as their cars might become priced out of the market in the UK.
