Didn't pay too much attention to Hunt waffling in parliament this morning, but I found this in the OBR statement later. I can't remember anything being said about a 12p per litre fuel duty rise next March - a rise that will flow through to virtually everything everyone buys. Sneaky or what?
I have had a good chat with my friend in Dorset tonight. His son owns a pub down there, and is in trouble. The chef left after the Brexit vote and went home. His replacement is not really very good, and the customers are complaining that the prices asked are too high for what is now basic pub food. He has just received his electricity bill for October that has gone from just over £5,000 to £10,500. And today he has been told that he has to pay the waiting and bar staff more money. This pub is very popular with the locals and is well used, but how can he cope with these rises, along with increases in the price of food and drink? Can he stay open? He doesn't know. Another strand of the UK fabric is being put into serious doubt.
He needs to stop Remoaning and listening to the Project Fear stuff. Everyone knew what they were voting for. Maybe he could offer extra Sovereignty sides with all the meals? Or unicorn steaks? According to the Government the forecasts are amazing and we're definitely not suffering, he just needs to believe in Brexit more and everything will be fine.
My friend, who I have had long arguments with over Brexit, was one of those taken in. I avoided the subject tonight.
Is that a BUF insignia on his left sleeve? The irony of a Poppy and that thing being worn at the same time is clearly lost on it. Definitely an it cos that ain't a man.
The cost of living crisis must be starting to hit the poor MPs - it seems they can now charge the cost of their staff Xmas parties to us... https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/mps-told-can-put-costs-28551497#comments-wrapper
They’re all ****s, is the point. Spending “…should represent value for money, especially in the current economic climate”!
Another one for the Truss/Brexit scrapbook - free trade deal with Japan, trumpeted as a boost to UK to exports, has actually seen exports slump. Instead of calling it a free trade deal, it perhaps would be more appropriate to call it a trade free deal? https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/nov/26/brexit-britain-japan-trade-deal-exports-slump

Flipping heck - I'm no paragon of virtue in this regard, but Neville Southall has really let himself go...
