It is a modern marvel. Cheap as chips clothing, shoes and accessories that are likely to fall apart after a couple of washes but is wildly popular. Primark often does knock-off imitation gear hence the moniker Primani, wimmin love being able to get kitted out for next to nothing and not give a monkeys that it will all be in the bin after wearing it a few times. Horrific human rights record by all accounts, not certain of the source of materials (articles indicate cotton picked by Chinese slave labour) and manufactured cheaply by ethnic types both here and abroad.

I have an arrangement with my local Red Cross charity shop to take first refusal on the clothes brought in from the old people's homes.

I like wearing trousers that old men died in .

You need a contact in the amputee ward...unless you're after shorts.

Do you have an issue with Simon cutting a dapper figure in double pleated suit trousers, shiny from over-ironing, with a stylish turned up hem... all held together with braces and giving off an eau de mothball?
Shame on you, live and let live mate.

The style of men's trousers changed as a result of rationing in WW2 (the one that ER slept through) and it was illegal to have turn ups as it wasted material. The change lasted beyond the end of rationing and as a result you don't find many modern trousers with turn ups. This austerity also applied to double-breasted suits, hence the increased popularity in a slimmer single cut suit.

    You're welcome.

No, no, no...adjustable turn ups and lapels meant anyone could wear any dead mans clothes with minimal tailoring. Don’t you know there’s a war on?

I am often accused of making sh.it. up or out and out lying by some factors on here but this is a true story. The Forces came to our school and in effect it was a recruitment drive to get us all to sign up but in the assembly hall the bigwigs sat up on the stage and offered to answer questions from the floor. Being always happy to make a tit out of myself for a laugh I asked the chap from the Navy why sailors still wore flares even though they were unfashionable. Turns out flared or bell bottom trousers are easier to roll up and not get wet. That was me telt.
