Do you know Eddie McCallum at Peniver?

 

There are quite a few McCallums in the town and surrounding area. Would he be related to Lindsay McCallum? Peniver is a nice wee place actually.

 

Had some good times up there. .

Did you meet any of the McCallum's when you were there

 

What were you doing there mate? Who else do you know there?

 

It's from decades ago, went a fair few times on holidays. They got their caravans from Hull, so we had a fair bit to chat about. I seem to recall them telling a tale about a young lad dying on the farm between Peninver and Campbleton, in an accident when riding in a tractor trailer.

 

Yeah there have been a few farm incidents over the last few decades. My dad was one of the doctors in Campbeltown so dealt with a lot of the stuff at the time. Yep, there is a nice caravan park there, nice beach too. In fact there are numerous cracking beaches around the area.

 

Just asked my mate about him and by pure chance Eddie McCallum is my mate's wife's cousin. Her maiden name was Hunter. A small world!

 

If I remember rightly, his dad was Eddie too, and ran the bar, Post Office, shop, Camp site and school bus at Peninver.

That's trawling my memory banks from way, way back though.

So was it you who sold him the caravans?

 

I think the main reason it stuck in my mind was that I was jealous to death of him. It seemed such a cracking life, moving caravans around with his tractor, and stepping straight out of his front door on to the beach to go out in his boat. As you say, lovely part of the world.

 

Yep that is correct, my mate has now told me.to **** off as he is up in Paisley just now helping his daughter move into a new flat hahaha

 

Nah, I was just a holiday maker. As I put above, it was simple envy that made him stick in my mind. He'll not remember us from all that time back. It was more his dad I spoke to, and even that wasn't at great length.

 

Ah ok, glad you enjoyed my old stomping ground anyway. I haven't been back there in about 10 years but still keep in contact with a lot of people there.

 

I dread to think how long it must be since I've been there. A lot more than 10 years, that much I do know.
