Probably a lag from the bank holiday (hopefully just that anyway) but yeah.

It maybe that they just had quite a few death certificates arriving at that time. The figures are not just from the day before.

World beating test and trace system, which it would be libellous to insinuate was rushed into service as a diversionary tactic from the D. Cummings tour of England, has proved to be a brilliant diversionary tactic as the system collapsed on its first day, with tracers unable to log on and being told not to phone the helpline.

It’s a waste of time anyway. As established on here many will ignore any calls received from the service, and even if they didn’t the NHS only identifies around 2,000 cases a day, when it is known that there are 9-11,000 infections - up to 70% of which might be symptomless and therefore never identified. But still presumably able to infect others if they stand within 2 metres of them for 15 minutes or use their toilet, but will be ok if they are 101 cms away for 14 minutes in a garden. Or so Chris Whitty said, I think.

Sunak stress testing the unemployment figures as he prepares to withdraw support for the self employed and ask firms to pay 20% (adds up to 30% if you add NI and pension contributions) of furloughed workers wages, which of course will mean more redundancies, as firms which aren’t trading due to government policy will not have any income to pay their staff.

Announce plans on further easing of lockdown 3 days before implementing them in the knowledge that the period covers a scorching hot weekend. Same with the first easing measures. It's hard not to feel like we are back to the herd immunity plan, not that immunity has even been proven to exist for this virus.

Judging by the measures and steps taken, one can only presume that the herd immunity plan has always been the plan.

Missed the talk of furlough yesterday.......totally agree with this G.
Just seems that there are more than a few unscrupulous companies (BA, Virgin, EasyJet etc) who are totally abusing the system, using it to pay their staffs wages and have plans to axe them anyway.
Spoke to a couple of mates from BA yesterday who have been furloughed again till the end of June and they aren’t expecting to get their jobs back. Talk of the company sacking all staff and taking back who they want on vastly inferior contracts. These are people who have worked 30+ years for the company and are being tossed aside in the name of greed and profit. Remember when BA say they are skint, they like to forget to mention the 9 BILLION in cash reserve they hold and the fact that they (IAG) are in the process of buying Air Europa for a Billion.
It’s an outrage that this is being allowed.

There were the same people out on my street last night, including the Mrs and kids. Agree enough is enough now.

The pilot of a private plane took off from Fairoaks airport in Surrey and flew to a military airfield on the Anglesey coast on Monday. He proceeded to land at the military airfield, without permission, because he ‘wanted to go to the beach’.

I’m pretty sure we are doomed, if morons like this have the cash and ability to fly wherever they like.

NHS being prepped for a second spike of coronavirus in July. So don’t be selfish and get ill from anything else in the meantime, you won’t get treated.

I think its acknowledged there will be a second spike. It is whether it can be managed/contained whilst carrying on back to some semblance of normality that is the issue.

I dread to think of the horror if the second spike happens in the autumn/winter. Not that a another peak at any time is desirable.

Greece has decided not to allow UK holidayers in when things resume on June 15th (due to our poor covid record)... mmm. let's see how long that lasts? The Brits will go elsewhere and spend their money.

Shame because Greece relies heavily on tourism. I don't want to see any country struggle but I think they are shooting themselves in the foot here?
I had some great holidays in Greece. <ale>

Jokes aside my sister works in travel and she told me the extent of what has happened in her industry. <yikes> Really bad and a lot of countries are now giving away flights/accommodation just to stay afloat. Those cruises are well and truly F22ked.
