Amazing to even have a “pi$$ing contest” over he did/they did, their bad/their worse, we’re wonderful/their crap!

Scientists have reinvented the wheel and saved thousands, if not millions when looking at the bigger picture, and people are happy to criticise and put-down like it’s great to chalk up some kind of one-upmanship.

I’m just a simpleton who is glad that peoples lives have been saved, while also sad that so many have lost loved ones. That’s the real picture.

Said it before, people are just knocking stuff for political reasons. Like you, I am just happy to have the jab and get on with life.

News about to break that new data will show that we are past the pandemic and social distancing will be completely scrapped in 7 weeks.

Lots of noise about raising restrictions immediately because the numbers re infections, hospitalisations and deaths look good.

Makes me wonder whether some people have learned anything at all in the last year. The lockdown has contributed hugely to the positive trend as well as the vaccines. It’s working, so dump it. Idiots.

On the other hand the media trumpeting 17 May as a great revelation in the relaxation of rules, even though from what I can see it’s exactly what has always been planned if the trends were positive. The gaps between these relaxations aren’t arbitrary, they are designed to give enough time to ensure that the impact of each level of change on the NHS is understood before the next step is taken. Doubtless we’ll hear the same about the final milestone, which I think is 21 June, when just about all restrictions are supposed to be lifted. At a time when most over 50s and all those younger and deemed vulnerable will be fully vaccinated. Makes sense.

Lots and lots of good news, but agreed, it would be insanely stupid to throw it all away now.
What a tragic mess in India!

Yep dumb **** rags like the Metro are reporting that hugging will be allowed from 17th. The media really have done a number on whipping up Lockdown easing mania. What happened to being cautious?

The frustration is, with their density of population, you could see it coming many months ago. Complacency on the part of the government there.

So, despite all the fears over a prolonged slow down, the vaccine roll out appears to be progressing well.
Infections and hospitalisations massively reduced. Good evidence of immunity in reasonably high percentages. Even the ridiculous scaremongering about the AZ jab seems to have abated, although the damage has been done there unfortunately.
Lots of reasons to be optimistic, whilst not thinking it's all over.

    That's the problem though.
This is a thing that we've not seen before and therefore hard to predict.
I'm confident at the moment that we're very much heading in the right direction, but variants and the spectre of overseas visitors could be problematic.

Yes what's happening in India looms large for me. We are progressing so well here but our flimsy approach to borders and international travel is a real weakness, this is what could scupper everything we've achieved.
