That's why I think the government needs to extend the furloughed deal for their relatives...we need (as a society) to show compassion and generosity in times like these...if they are left high and dry it'll say nothing positive about what we (as a society) should have learned from this awful situation.

    That's how I see it.

I hope you're right but history shows that if lessons are learned it is very short lived

It would be nice, but it would be an absolute nightmare for a lot of smaller companies.
Say the lockdown ends next week and your business can re open. You have twelve employees but a quarter of them live with a vulnerable person. You can’t keep closed because you don’t know how long it’s going to carry on for, but will struggle to manage without a quarter of your staff.
Like I said, some tough decisions are going to be made and some people are going to extremely angry.

Yeah I get that which is why I gave them the option to be furloughed first. But ultimately the work still has to be done so the other option is to hire new people and then when this is over make the decision of who to get rid of, which is **** either for the current guys or the new staff I’d have to take on. And at the point there isn’t work for the furloughed staff because I’ve replaced them am I then breaking the rules on furlough because it’s to stop people being laid off but there then isn’t work for them....

    It’s a tough one!

I can tell you what we will learn from this absolutely nothing.

I've not seen any positive changes by the government to help the elderly, those with MH problems, those that are on their own especially with disabilities, that's not forgetting the domestic abuse and the non existent child education during this crisis. They might talk about these things but how they talk about it and how I would talk about it are two completely different entities. Don't get me wrong, it's all well and good talking the talk but are they walking it...

I'll leave it to Reuters to explain in more detail...

Temporary contracts (like when people take paternity leave) or agency staff may be a solution.

But the government need to support employers and employees so that the vulnerable are protected, so experienced and skilled staff are not lost to companies and people are not thrown into poverty.

If we need to support big companies like virgin then we need to support small companies to support their staff imho.

I've no idea if it's true, but I do know it was reported he was unwell the other day, I thought something about his heart was mentioned. Albeit the usual denials coming out of the country. So it wouldn't suprise me.

I agree with and share and share your concerns about some of your post but would add that lots of children are being educated...not to the standard in school... but they are recieving work through the post and online.

There is also a lot of mental health support being given by phone and online to children and families.

I do accept that it is not enough though.

The disability issue I would agree with you.
The domestic violence issue is beyond grim...I also read today that "revenge porn" cases have escalated beyond belief...what kind of **** does these things ffs?
There is also an issue about kids with mentsl health problems being violent st home cos they can not cope with the lockdown...that's why lots of staff have offered to work with families.

My biggest fear is that in order to pay for this public services will take s resl financial battering and msny will become even worse paid or lose their jobs.

But tbh, I try not to think too far ahead cos I have no idea what to think and it feels very stressful.
