Has anyone got the second verse of happy birthday? I’m bored of singing the same verse twice every time I wash my hands.

it won’t be 51 for long though will it ?
Numbers will start taking off very soon as they are doing in other European countries.
And this virus is not just a cold - 8% of infected cases in Italy are currently in intensive care. Once that figure reaches the thousands then there won’t be any room in hospitals and then the death rate will spike upwards.

    this is merely the beginning.
This virus is still out of control, has no cure and won’t stop until it infects most of the population.

Here’s a trivia question. Statistically how many people does it take to catch Coronavirus for it to be confirmed that an “owner” with the Owners Group has been infected?

May I just re-state a phrase from our Welcoming thread:

"Although this is, primarily, a horse racing forum we like to regard it as a forum for horse racing enthusiasts. To this end we have dedicated off topic threads for general and specialist topics outside horse racing"

This does mean that some threads may not be of interest to some; but may be of interest to others. obvious really

Coronavirus is topical and probably of interest to some. It is certainly at a different danger level to some of the things mentioned. But don't worry if it's not of interest; it will soon disappear if no-one is interested

The narrower the options, the harder it is to survive. Without variety, the site will die a natural death. Maybe NOT606 is slowly wilting in the vine, after all, nothing lasts forever. It doesn't take much to see which side of the fence I'm on, I post lots off subject stuff. And I'm not for a second saying I'm helping to keep the place afloat, but I can say that without the "off subject" stuff, next to nothing happens here.

We we need is new blood, but it's almost impossible to get any. As us regular oldies drift away, we're not being replaced at the same rate as those who leave. Even General Chat has gone down the toilet.

Ron had a good point here when he asks for more content from those who use the place, but most couldn't be bothered. And fair enough too. But Ron can't be blamed for trying to bail out the boat.

As for deleting the OP, I say leave it. Whether people want to admit it or not, Covid19 is a serious issue.

I can see why coronavirus is being dismissed by many on here - after all most of us probably won't get it or if we do it will be quite mild.
It also hasn't really taken off here yet, but there is every likelihood that it will. Once it does then the problem is that this virus hospitalises quite a high percentage of people. Hospitals are already at breaking point.

It hasn't quite hit home I don't think that there is a very good chance if you get seriously ill there might not be a bed for you in a hospital. Maybe I am just more aware of this than many as I work quite closely with parts of the NHS and can see where this is heading. Hopefully though disaster can be averted if the peak of this virus can be delayed until the early summer. I think the worst case scenarios are unlikely to happen.

Regarding the forum I probably follow the flat season more so would post more on the racing threads in the summer.
I generally just follow the NH season on Saturday afternoons so post on the off topic threads during the week more in the winter months than during the summer.
On that I reckon you do a great job with the Saturday racing league! <cheers>

I think there are very valuable people in this forum, but honestly there are also other people who try to underestimate or discredit some people who write here. I'm not saying they do it with bad intentions, but they do.

In particular, I have been accused of inflating the odds I put (false as it is easily verifiable), not knowing that it was e/w, (amazing but true), and even not knowing that it meant blue in Oddschecker. Why? I have no idea, I believe that within my grammatical limitations, I have always tried to be very respectful to everyone in the forum. Sometimes I have thought that maybe two months after arriving here I won the individual ranking of the Cheltenham 2018 contest against FJ not like some component of the forum, I don't know why. That's why I didn't take part in the contest last year.

It is true that at the beginning I was trying to reason the horses I put here, even though I find it difficult to write in English, but after some hurtful message I decided to put only name and odds, if anyone wants to follow it well, if not also. It is clear that some reasoning is always appreciated on the advice and from here my thanks to those who do. I think that despite my many failures I have also had very remarkable successes as it is easily verifiable.

I don't think this is a dead forum, there are people who know a lot about racing, I hope that new members join in to give a push. My intention is to stay around if there's no serious fact to stop me.

    Sorry for writing mistakes.

I'd echo what Ron and Cyc have said - any forum lives and dies by the contribution of ALL its members. There are more than enough posters on here but if they don't feel motivated to post on horse racing subjects then it will die out. I sometimes get the feeling people want to say something but because there isn't a specific thread for that subject they can't be arsed. Apathy can soon take hold. We haven't even had a Champion Hurdle thread this year. Why? Because I didn't do it, like I did in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 (2018 I couldn't for personal reasons). But obviously nobody else felt strongly enough about it to create a thread. We have also lost a number of excellent contributors over the years and, as Cyc said, their shoes haven't been filled. Maybe horse racing is just becoming boring? Who knows? I'm not into flat racing but am always impressed by the depth of comment and debate from the likes of Bustino, Grendel and Boris/Eddie to name just 3.

Sorry to hear you feel like this. I feel it is a sign of how the forum has changed that it has become less welcoming to people. I get that on threads like the politics one, debate can get heated and things get personal but with racing people should be free to post selections and give whatever reasoning they want without judgement. We all look for different things when backing horses, form, yard, jockey, track, ground, distance etc... Some people get legit info, some people don't. Some people are good at tipping, others aren't. Nobody is forced to back anybody else's selections we all bet as we see fit. Keep posting and ignore the trolls.
