Preston North End manager Alex Neil is fully aware of the size of the job on the club's hands this summer.

The Lilywhites' owners' representative Peter Ridsdale has already admitted that the January transfer window - where eight players were signed and eight let go - was a trial run for the summer months.

It isn't going to be a quiet term and with 11 games to go in the 2020/21 season, preparations for next year will already be underway.

A massive rebuild is in store and the North End boss knows it.

In his latest press conference, Neil said: "This will certainly be, I'd imagine, whether the lads on loan stay or don't stay, the biggest overhaul of the squad that we've probably had - a lot of which has been forced upon us.

"We've got to focus on the games here and now, I think that (overhaul) is for a later date.
I think there will be players here at the moment who are playing to remain here, there will be players who potentially want to extend their loans or make their loans permanent, so they've got to do as well as they can to see what we can do in the summer.

"And there will be other guys who will want to get as many minutes under their belt to show what they can do, so that their future lies here going forward.

"I think there is a lot of dynamics at play; players are in very different situations and circumstances but the simple fact is that's where we end up at the moment and is for a later date.

Talking about the squad, that is where we are at the moment but we've got a big game on Saturday at Wycombe and that's our sole focus."

One off the field move in preparation for 2021/22 has been the decision to set-up a new recruitment department at the club.

James Beet has arrived from Barnsley as the club's new senior recruitment analyst and the PNE boss is pleased to see both him come in and some focus being put on that area of the club.
I don't think the fact that he worked for Barnsley had that much of a bearing really," said Neil. "He's an avid PNE fan for a start, so his best intentions will be to try and help the club and us as much as he can.

"He's got a thirst for the game, he loves the thing that he does which is sourcing and finding players.

"So the more guys we've got helping us in that sort of department, to try and find the best we can for what we can afford, the better.

"Obviously Joe Savage left so it was an area where we were relatively vulnerable, and it was certainly an area where we needed to grow as much as we can.

"There are teams in this league that have got extensive set-ups in terms of numbers, data and everything really; to be honest we are at the start of that as much as anything else."

Intersting this is, have to say Barnsley's re cruiting has put us to shame, they have become a team to watch entertaining and with a never say die attiitude but they have recruited from far and wide, the American lad Daryl Dike for instance think there is a major turnaround in players this summer some well established players will go could be exciting times ahead

To be honest Mac, until the new manager is appointed, it is nothing but speculation. Even the title may be changed to 'head coach' which suggests a coaching team approach.

Carlos Mendes Gomes (born 14 November 1998) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for English club Morecambe, as a winger.

Career[edit]
Born in Yeumbeul, Dakar Region,[3] Mendes Gomes and his family moved to Spain when he was a child.[4] The family moved to Lanzarote; Mendes Gomes later moved on his own to Madrid aged 15, where he began playing for Getafe.[4] A season later he signed for Atlético Madrid's youth teams.[3][4][5]

His family then moved to England, after his father thought it was better for the children's education.[4] Mendes Gomes could not speak any English and did not play football for a year.[4] He then began playing for West Didsbury & Chorlton, scoring seven league goals in 50 games in all competitions during his two-season spell.[6]

In May 2018, Mendes Gomes signed for Morecambe alongside Lamin Jagne, after being scouted whilst studying at The Manchester College and playing for their football academy.[7] He made his senior debut on 14 August 2018, replacing Rhys Oates in a 3–1 EFL Cup away loss against Preston North End.[8]

A one-year contract option was exercised by Morecambe at the end of the 2018–19 season.[9] He was offered a new contract at the end of the 2019–20 season.[10]

In April 2021 he was linked with a transfer away from the club.[11]

 

Camaron Brannagan
The summer transfer window isn't far away at all and Preston North End have already been linked with Oxford United's Cameron Brannagan.
According to Football Insider, PNE and Millwall are the two clubs ready to make a move in the summer, if the Us do not secure promotion to the Championship.
Oxford snapped the midfielder up from Liverpool in January 2018, after he had spent the second half of the 2016/17 campaign on loan with Fleetwood Town.
The summer before that season, the Premier League club reportedly rejected a £1m bid from newly-promoted Wigan Athletic for his services.
Brannagan has found his feet at the Kassam Stadium, having played over 140 appearances in total - 36 of those coming this campaign, with the Us in the hunt for a play-off place.
The 24-year-old has impressed under Karl Robinson and played with Ryan Ledson prior to his summer move to PNE in 2018.

Brannagan - who was born in Manchester - signed a contract extension in August of last year, with his deal set to expire in the summer of 2023.

He has represented England at Under-20 level and did make nine first-team appearances for Liverpool, but proved to be surplus to requirements with Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Preston-born striker is having quite the season with the League One club, and has been linked with Championship clubs already ahead of the summer - a £1.5m fee being touted.
Adam Phillips
Was loaned in from Burnley in February, after an impressive loan spell with Morecambe in League Two - where he scored 10 goals in 33 games from central midfield.
Since signing for Stanley in February, the 21-year-old has played 19 times and his contract at Turf Moor is up in the summer.
Colby Bishop
Another centre-forward gamble from non-league that has paid off for Stanley.
Bishop has hit double figures in the last two seasons in League One, having matched his previous tally of 12 this campaign - with two games to play.
The 24-year-old is a presence at the top end of the pitch and scores a variety of goals.
Callum Johnson
Ex-Accrington defender Johnson has been heavily linked with PNE in the past, including last summer prior to his eventual move to Pompey.
Has played 38 times this season in League One, with Portsmouth gunning for a play-off place.
Right-back will be a key area for PNE to address this summer, following the sale of Darnell Fisher.
But having had the chance to sign Johnson previously and ended up looking elsewhere, it would be a surprise move.
Ronan Curtis
A player that could well be out of North End's price range, if there did prove to be any interest.
Curtis is an exciting player who would certainly boost PNE's options in attack, with him able to play both out wide and central.
The 25-year-old has been linked with Championship moves in previous windows and a sizable £3m was reportedly the asking price last year.
Under contract until 2023 at Fratton Park, having scored 39 goals in the three seasons since he was signed from Derry City.
Marcus Harness
Harness briefly played in the Championship for Burton Albion between 2016 and 2018, but has found his best form since signing for Pompey in 2019.
Scored nine in 37 last season and has followed that up with 10 in 49 this year - 13 assists across the two years for the 25-year-old, too.
A versatile and extremely quick forward player, who is under contract until the summer of 2022.
