I called the bank before I came out here to tell them that I was staying here for a while, and that transactions in Vietnam were OK. The last thing I wanted was having my card stopped when I paid for something, and then have to call back to the UK for here to sort it out.
On RIP of Britain this morning somebody had had their online bank scammed. It was via there EE mobile account. Any slight detail can be used to obtain fake driving license then go into ee shop and change the sim with I'D of license. Then log into bank app and empty account. Also a couple had £100,000 taken by somebody saying they where bank and security had been breached. hacking their computer and monitoring then through the lap top camera. Watching these programmes is a good idea coz it makes you a lot more aware.
Actually hat the 43 I’m left with are 225 40 18, so if you’ll consider budgets come and fill your boots
I had been in Morrisons in Beverley one Saturday. The day after I allegedly withdrew 400 quid in Zagreb which was strange as I was sat in Cottingham having my breakfast.
Aye I’ve had if confirmed if it’s a cloned card/fraudulent transaction it’ll be down to me to refund the sale. Great just short of 3k out of pocket and ehab thinks he has problems
My old man has always said he doesn't trust banks and debit cards, etc ..I used to take the mickey out of him , he has jars of cash hidden all over his house -reading all this I can see why now , probably has right idea
Crazy. They went in on a Saturday morning, said they were here for the weekend, have to pay a £300 balance on a 2nd hand car for their daughter, withdrew £300, got a receipt slip, then said whilst there they may as well withdraw some more as a surprise for her as a bigger downpayment. ID matched, signature was a poor copy but matched closely enough, all rather scary.....Not great security it would seem but they have been investigating for 5 weeks now and no real answers yet. OK - you caught me red handed - it was me, I wore a wig and then went and ordered some tyres.
I had my card cloned in France last year on the way skiing. Was contacted by HSBC to advise me my card had been used numerous times at opposite ends of the country - one was me near Strasbourg - the others near Calais and into Belgium/Luxembourg. Bastards - I was well pissed off. With magnetic swipe copiers it's pretty easily done apparently. You wouldn't even know.
There's all sorts of ways to clone cards. Contactless cards in particular someone could just walk by and get it without ever having looked at you. Same goes for keys with that keyless bollocks.
I had £5k nicked on my business credit card once, I got a call asking me if I'd recently been in Mexico, just got it back though.
I run a savings account along side my debit card account. I keep in the debit card account the bear minimum, then just transfer over enough to pay for any certain item. If anyone tries to take anything from my card account it would be relatively small.
I do exactly the same with offset accounts but whether the bank would actually not just process the payment and then offset the debit balance against the savings account remains to be seen if it ever happens!
