There's no certainty that Root contributed to Archer's injury of course, but he certainly over-bowled him. He had had very little first-class experience before playing for England and needed to be managed properly, but Root treated him like he had a new toy. I love Wood, but he really only has his speed as a threat. Archer can match him for speed, but has guile as well. He could be England's first-choice for 10 years, if handled appropriately.
Yep, maybe. Could possibly come down to how much he wants it. The evidence so far is that Archer can't match wood for speed apart from the odd really rapid delivery. Wood seldom seems to bowl beneath 90mph and that is a huge weapon.
Archer was in tears when he failed the fitness test for this Test, so he definitely wants it. He could very easily choose to just play franchise cricket and make a lot more money. If he put as much into every delivery as Wood does, he'd be consistently quicker, but probably injured as much. It'd be great to have them both playing, but Archer is the bigger asset for me. Would you have fancied Wood bowling the Super Over in the World Cup final?
Nope. I'd pick Archer ahead of Wood for white ball cricket. Would be great to have them both fit and firing. I'm not convinced Archer would be consistently quicker, but he may match Wood at least.
Should be fun tomorrow as that pitch was showing some uneven bounce today, I'd expect it to be over by tea...
I'm hoping to go to Australia for The Ashes at the end of next year. It would be brilliant to see Wood and Archer bowling on those quick wickets.
I was rather surprised at the way England batted in their 2nd innings. Being 2-1 up I would of thought that they would bat longer and absolutely ensure that they couldn't lose. Now, I realise that a South African victory is very, very, very unlikely. However, if they get to the close at something like 240-3, they will need another 230 ish to win on the last day.
First T20 today and Morgan win's the toss ... '' It looks like a good wicket so we'll have a bowl.'' S.Africa smash the ball all over the place and the game looks out of reach before 10 overs are bowled. Clueless.
Pretty good in the second 10, though. Wood and Jordan superb at the death. Could be a close one, but I fancy England to get these.
