Got home after a very quick and definitely illegally fast (light traffic, no roadworks) round trip to the Toon in time for the final over. Nearly but not quite, good effort, and thanks for keeping me lively and alert.
I don't think Curran got it quite right when he was batting with Wood. Wood's not a rabbit and Curran turned down too many singles, I reckon. Brilliant innings though.
I agree. There were plenty of opportunities for some safe singles which Curran declined (apparently under instruction). I believe Wood would have safely been able to rotate the strike back to Curran. The decision added to the pressure and possibly ultimately cost the match. That said it was exciting to watch and we should acknowledge that India and England are the best two sides in the world at the moment. Well done India!
India are an excellent side in all formats. I believe England are the best 50 over side (not just because they're world champions), when they field their strongest side, which would arguably include all of Root, Morgan, Woakes and Archer. Don't think there's much between the two in T20 and that format can be a bit of a lottery against a lot of teams.
County Championship started again, yay! it’s only 40 years or so since I last went to a county match......should remedy that, it’s a quintessential English afternoon out. The Tykes will never tire of telling us that Yorkshire are miles ahead in terms of championships won, but to my surprise 3 counties have never won.....any guesses (can’t find the pub quiz thread)?
I know Somerset haven't despite having Botham, Richards and Garner in their 80s team. Probably Northants and Derbyshire?...
I'll go for Durham, Glamorgan and Derbyshire. Oops, just read the above. Should have waited. County Champions are soon forgotten.
Null points. Third team were one of the original 8 counties forming the first official County Championship in 1890.
