after england's win in the first test against new zealand, anderson is ranked number one test bowler in the world. for the sixth time. he is 40. he is the oldest player to be top ranked since 1936 (though i suspect that's based on retrospective calculations).
After an awful start, 21-3, the Yorkshire double act of Brook's & Root take us to 188 - 3, Brook 105 & Rooty 5 Not out.
Watched the first few overs and feared the worst. Woke up to this! Looking forward to catching up the highlights.
Eng need 165. Could have been worse but for some late wickets. I've got to go out now so I'll miss the rest
damnit, i've been had. i read on cricinfo that the second day's play was starting at 10:30, so i just opened up cricinfo to find three more wickets gone and realised they started at 10:30 new zealand time which would have been 9:30 uk time and brook is out for not much extra because i wasn't concentrating. damnation. at least root 66 is still in, but might run out of partners. they should make 400, maybe 450 or more.
Harry Brook's record-breaking start to Test cricket 807 runs - the most by any player after nine innings in the history of Test cricket 4 centuries - one of six batters (including Sir Don Bradman) to have this many hundreds through their first six Tests, the joint-most in history 99.3 strike rate - Brook's 807 runs in his Test career so far have come off just 812 balls
