3 DRS zones!!!! Read that Red Bull have some sort of metal skate on the under floor that helps strengthen it to limit flex (hence no metal support on top surface!) and maybe act as a rubbing strip? Seems like Ferrari might have PU upgrades (MGU-H and maybe control electronics, maybe new mapping). Looks like Merc are going to be giving their drivers a big headache this weekend with the bouncing!! They are now suggesting that they have multiple possible directions to go - sounds like they still don't have a real handle on the issue! Hope they sort it soon.
Great seeing Mercedes stuggle for once, not great fir Hamilton mind you, the worse car he's ever had to drive while Russel used to having been at Williams.
From what I read the metal skate was there at least at the last race - it's not new. I do wonder if it was a very simple solution to stop the floor bending down too much by providing a mechanical stop which also strengthens the floor. Hasn't the Red Bull been the one that sparks much more than the others down the straights? I think a photographer snapped the floor when the mechanics delivered it to the rear of the garage and left it showing the underside!!
The red bull is smaller to the floor and has been the whole way through . I thought it was too heavy as its floor was stiffest but who knows.
They have the bouncing and also supposedly floor flexing. Two distinct and largely separate problems but maybe there is a solution that contributes to solving both. But you are right, by all accounts they can not replicate the bouncing in the predictions. Ride height has also been compromised so there are 3 issues to solve. I have to believe Merc, when they solve it will surprise. Assuming there is no dominant car or driver for the first half of the season I am hopeful that Merc influence the outcome of the championships albeit they win neither.
The bouncing is related to loss of ground effect. Whether that is related to thr floor flexing mostly or its down to poor outwash and vortices I don't know. I suspect the two support wires suggest the flex is bad. The ride heigh is down to the floor flexing and bouncing It's the only solution to lessening it. So imo they've ****ed up the ground effect but the interesting thing is watching the ferrari bounce along and then just turn into the corners like.nothing happened. Is there a different issue masked by the horrendous bouncing at merc? Is the suspension just rubbish?
Strange practice times- FP1 is more representative to race conditions than FP2 which is on very late. Atmosphere in Miami looks amazing to be fair- hope the race is good! Ferrari PU upgrade will be very interesting because if their straight line speed gets boosted without losing any of that mighty downforce and traction then boy, they will be laying down the gauntlet. On paper I’d think this is Red Bull territory but you never know
from my memory there was a proper downpour at around 4pm everyday in Miami. Lasted about 20-30 mins and then the sun comes out and everything was dry 30 mins later.
