Norwich fans chanting "**** off back to Chelsea" at Gilmour. Not a fan of that, but shows just how toxic things are going to get this season. The summer rebuild is going to be an even bigger job than last time
At least we drew the second half and did create a few chances, albeit with Palace playing within themselves.
Yeah it’s not nice to see, but to be honest when he’s played that deep lying role we have been awful and a lot (though far from all) is down to his poor passing, decision making and dwelling on the ball. He’s also too easily outmuscled and doesn’t offer anything defensively. I think he does need to go back to Chelsea.
For me, unless we score, there are no positives from a second half like that. As you say, Palace played within themselves so it hardly counts. And we didn’t really forge anything. It really just rubs in the negatives for me.
Hard to judge, because the opposition was much weaker, but I thought that was an improvement on the Arsenal disaster (OK, I know that's a very low bar). If (big if) he can stay fit, Byram will be a great addition to this side for the rest of this season and into next season. He looked our best player to me, even though he has hardly played for so long. Giannoulis was good, although I read he has a foot injury (why is it always players like Rashica and Giannoulis who get injured, and never Gilmour or Sargent?) Again poor finishing, but as I said at half-time, at least we created a few chances. In most recent games, we created zero. Let's not be too harsh on some of those players because they each had enjoyed maybe 180 minutes of game time so far this season (Idah, Tzolis, Byram, Sorensen) and they did OK as back-up players in the circumstances. The real negatives for me were Gunn and Gilmour. The fact that we spent 5m on Gunn is yet another negative against Webber's recruitment this summer, while Gilmour has been truly awful and should never play for Norwich again. On dropping him, Farke made a courageous decision and he has been proved right. I accept he should be playing further forward, but even in attack he was guilty of several overhit passes in situations which looked promising for us. And his dead ball delivery is woeful. In what way he is an improvement on Vrançic - a genuinely classy footballer, not an over-hyped teenager?
