Guthrie's contract runs out in the summer and I was just wondering if anyone knows if he is likely to sign a new deal? If not surely we would be looking to cash in this window so we don't lose him for free? I'm just a bit confused as to why there has been no talk of either him leaving or him signing a new contract.

In my opinion we should definetely try to keep Guthrie, he's the most underrated player at the club. He can pass, shoot, tackle, and is still fairly young. The only problem I can see is that he is maybe too injury prone, as (this might be a bit controversial) he has outshone Cabaye when the two have plyed together this season. Also, who exactly could we sign for the same amount that we sell Guthrie for that is a better player?

I'd expect him too, but I think that we would have said this time last year that Enrique and Barton would re-sign. Also would never imagined that Nolan would be playing for West Ham in the Championship.

I'd expect him, Colo and Simmo all to sign, I mean they won't go to anyone better than us

Guthrie to me is a very average EPL player who would struggle to get into a top 10 side. Canny squad player but if anything has been learned by Newcastle is the availability of good foreign players itching for EPL wages who would outshine him.

Any new deal he would be looking for 5 years.......that's a long time for someone who's not going to improve resale wise or tbf, quality wise.

I'd argue that Guthrie has been one of our better performers this season, when he has played that is.

We're doing well atm, in fact it looks like we're the best of the rest outside the top 5, so unless some players expect to go to Liverpool, Arsenal and so on, then they may be taking a bit of a step down by moving elsewhere.

Guthrie has been our best player this season when fit? Was one of the only players to come out of the game yesterday with any credit.

I hope he stays. He has done a good job at filling in for Tiote and works well with Cabaye. Hopefully he can pull out a few more goals like yesterdays as well.

The only stumbling block I could see with him wanting to stay is whether he sees himself getting a good amount of games when Tiote returns, but that's up to him to perform and fight for his palce, it would be good to have competition between our players.

Good squad player who is worth his while at Newcastle, for a while even if we develop well, especially with having Tiote and Cabaye.

Pardew says 'he needs to know the grass isn't always greener.'

Wonder who Guthrie reckons he could sign for lol. He definetly wouldn't sign for anybody better.

Thought that was more the situation with Simpson, Enrique, Barton, Nolan or Carroll.

Maybe. We are definetly the best club he could hope for like.

If he left us it would be for some team like Wolves I reckon then he would be forgotten about.

    He's outperformed Cabaye recently.

Yeah, Cabaye hasn't been great recently. First half yesterday he was like. I think it's a mixture of us playing hoofball and him playing in every game. Maybe we should rest him for the Brighton game and bring him back for Blackburn.

Just show him what's happened to Beye and he should realise the grass isn't always greener. I hope he signs up long term.

Off-topic but did you see Beye's red card yesterday? Daft challenge, didn't need to make it.
