I stand by he should not be with us, 60 games managing Bristol then us. He got results to get us out of relegation. He does seem to be a decent bloke who 'gets' us. Sadly, I reckon results till May will be poor.
From what I understand Dean Holden is the last remnant of the people brought in to run Charlton Athletic for the supposed 'new owners'. That take-over bid is presumably dead, and the highly dodgy protagonists are seriously out of pocket. Good. By all accounts they had less money that the legendary Australians from a few years back. With only 11 games left to play now in my view we might as well let Holden run his short contract down. We need about 8 points, and if we ditch him now we might lose what little unimaginative stability we still possess. 11 games, 2 wins and 2 draws needed. Even he should be able to manage that. I'd change my mind I think if he loses three straight games again. 3 defeats and out.
I didn't realise when I posted my first message (above) that Holden has signed on for another three years. It was announced at the Accrington game, which illness prevented me attending. If the recruitment staff are not changed, I think a Holden summer transfer window will lead to relegation in May 2024 - assuming we survive this season. But he won't be sacked unless there is a massive revolt among fans. Sadly, our fans don't seem to have the gumption left for protesting. Attendances will simply continue to fall, until the official figures won't be able to hide the truth.
There were quite a few "Sandgaard out" chants on Saturday, but I won't join in any protests, not after joining in nearly all the RolandAhrt ones. They didn't achieve anything. Maybe even made him more vindictive towards the club.
It does seem that the protests against Roland (some of which did seem to hit a nerve) turned his abuse of Charlton Athletic from the neglectful and uncaring to the spiteful and vindictive. And that the harm he has done is worse now because of it. But I still believe we should not appease those who harm us. What he's doing is on his conscience, and I hope it bothers him every day. When powerless folk protest against the unjust behaviour of a powerful antagonist, who then behaves even worse out of spite, that is not the fault of the protesters. Good luck to Dean Holden, but I can't see him getting any backing. Sandgaard doesn't have the funds, and a well-meaning and rich new investor appearing seems very unlikely. We could be bottom 6 all next season.
Most clubs would sack a manager after no wins in 5 and only one goal scored. At Charlton, he gets a 3 year contract
Yep, we know how to pick 'em. Dowie, Reed, Pardew, Fraeye, Slade Parky had a dreadful run as caretaker manager and he still got the gig. I always did like him though. Millwall would be lucky to have half the crap managers we've had.
So will there be another 'clear-out' behind the scenes at CAFC this summer? And will the right people get the tin-tack this time?
Doesn't say where? Bromley Addicks have a meeting on the same date, with Scott Minto as the special guest. They announced in back on May 20th.
I see Ben Hayes is a bit upset with this. Whatever people may think of him the comment he posted last night suggests to me CAST are in the wrong, I gather there has been problems in the past between them and Bromley Addicks. Ben Hayes does an awful lot of good work for Charlton.
