Former striker Dean Windass has been appointed as the new chairman of non league club Goole AFC, it’s been revealed this week.

Windass, now 50, played for Hull City, Aberdeen, Oxford United, Bradford City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Oldham Athletic and Darlington, scored over 200 goals in a 20-year career.

He was also a player-assistant manager at Darlington but his coaching career never took hold, though did have a spell as manager of 10th tier strugglers East Hull earlier this season.

Goole sit just a division higher, in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, where they sit 12th and look unlikely to go either up or down for the current campaign.

Windass said that he is really excited about the challenge.

He added in a video posted on Twitter: “It’s 11:50, er, I spoke about my meeting last night, er I’ve got clarification now, I’m officially appointed as chairman of Goole AFC.

“The meeting went really well, we’re going to try pushing the football club better than it is at the minute and hopefully a few more supporters will come through the door.

“I’m very pleased as well because my youngest lad plays for Goole, so it gives me the opportunity to see ‘Our Jordan’ all the time.

“(It’s) something to get my teeth into on Saturdays, meet and greet at games, stand over the manager and hopefully help him to get the results on the pitch. It’s not all about me, it’s about getting results for Goole.”

Meeting and greeting and standing over the manager...don't Chairmen of football clubs actually chair meetings too?

    Good luck to him though

What actually happened with him managing East Hull?

I recall seeing him announced as manager, but I can’t remember him leaving or actually managing any matches – was it all just bollox?

They're ****ed. Proper ****ed. It wasn't going to do his chances of getting a proper gig any good.

East Hull are currently bottom of the league, with 1 point and a -75 goal difference after just 20 games. They're 17 points from safety and have an average attendance of 59 a game.

Oh, and they got knocked out the ERSC by...Hull United, the club Waltham abandoned when he didn't get his own way. <laugh>

    Oh. And **** them.

So the Waltham/ Windass partnership don't work then? What did happen there with Deano? Waltham does deserve everything he gets.

I don't think they fell out, but Deano got a better offer, it's as simple as that.

The Chairman at Goolle is the better offer? Financially? i suppose anything is better than where he was. Seems he wasn't able to turn it round there, just can't see him as Chairman. Hope it works out for him. The photo of him volleying it in vs Brizzies is back up in my office after temporarily taking it down when he was in bed with the Allams.

I would say it’s a better offer both financially and honourably. Goole’s owner obviously isn’t loaded, but it’s going to pay him a little bit of cash and he certainly isn’t going to end up being relegated to the same league as South Cave United.

Wow, I use to play for South Cave United many moons ago, I didn't realise they'd become that bad

Nice to see a photo of the Pleasure Grounds. First played on it as a 10 year old in a cup final for Boothferry Road School in 1954.

How long before he's on a 'done one' thread?

The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
