Yes I know we think the refs in our god forsaken league are awful. Mike Dean, after viewing a replay on VAR sent off two players, not in the same game. I believe both decisions have been reversed. He has received death threats, the police are investigating. He has asked to not ref a league game at the weekend, is going to do a cup game in the next couple of days. VAR, is supposed to make the refs have an easier time, in Dean's case it is making a fool of him. Nobody should have keyboard warriors making death threats about them. VAR, guidance has to be issued to refs better than it is now. ATM it us messing up, hand balls, penalties, sending offs and offsides...yep it is all better now is it not. Cricket, Rugby, Tennis all have it working only in football can the blazers mess it up.
I don’t agree with the death threats, but I struggle to have sympathy for Mike Dean. He’s an egotistical arsehole. He had the opportunity to watch the incident over and over and still gave a red card. He loves to make any game about himself and I hope this makes him realise he’s just not up to it.
If you type in Google, man city, winger, diver, guess who comes up I am sick of so called experienced professional refs, pandering to cheats, who feel a 'touch then fall over as if hit by a sniper... Dean and most of the refs do the same... no judgement about the touch being strong enough to fall over. Rugby players pretend they are not hurt, football players pretend they are hurt. This did not used to be the case. The ref we had on Saturday should have given 09 a 2nd yellow. Their 2nd goal was offside and they handballed in the penalty area. These were probably the only big decisions he had to make and he got all three wrong.
I’m sure I know who comes up when you replace Man City with Liverpool too. Agree regarding the referee on Saturday too. I think what pisses me off the most about the penalty was the referees position. He was stood directly in front of the decision and bottled it. You could possibly forgive him if he wasn’t, but he was in the perfect position.
There's a few things about the ref on Saturday. Technically, because he fell for the Dons player cheating, he should've given a second yellow card. But, on that, it evened itself for them more than once O'Nien didn;t foul the lad - the Dons' player literally kicked O'Nien and dived The foul which stopped our break away was committed by a player on a yellow card and is a bog standard yellow The ref didn;t give Jerome a free kick when he went down - Ref must've thought he dived therefore should've 2nd yellowed him (by this, in the refs eye, if it's not a foul then it must be a dive) Jerome could've easily received 2 yellow cards for his involvement with Burge - twice bumping him Their keeper dropped the ball and picked it up again which is an indirect free kick - the ref gave them a free kick and booked Willis who wasn't within 2 yards of him Penalty to us he, despite looking straight at it, missed it completely Offside by Jerome (I'm taking Johnson's word for that as I can;t tell from replays I have seen)
Did you see their game yesterday? Salah slightly touched on the arm and the sniper got him. Henderson did EXACTLY the same thing when Foden ran past him but Foden would rather keep going and set up a goal. The commentators saying "Salah accepting the contact" IT'S ****ING CHEATING!!!!
Yeah, I saw it and those were my thoughts. He’s a fantastic player but he’s a ****ing cheating scumbag and he does it every week. Dias should never have given him the opportunity but that’s by the by. Funny that that one wasn’t scrutinised by VAR like Soucek’s was.
When you know that a referee has seen an incident several times and still got it wrong, it proves what people have been saying for years now. They've been a law unto themselves for far too long and we need to weed out those unwilling to use the new system properly.
I've been threatening to murder Refs from the terraces, for over 50 years Football is,a game of opinions and despite the advances in both technology and their supposed status as professional still hasn't improved things since I started watching in the late 50s. I've met some Premiership Refs socially and would class them all as self centred with the attitude it's all about them out on the pitch when in fact good Refs do a game without being noticed. How that guy on Saturday failed to spot the handball is quite astonishing, in fact I think he did see it and completely bottled having to make what could have been a match winning decision. It's amazing how they're on the whistle for easy infringements outside the penalty area but when it comes to the crunch they're found wanting. Don't see any improvement in the standard of Refereeing in all the years I've been watching, but when you do see one having a good game it stands out like a saw thumb.
As much as it pains me to say it with him being a mag, I think Michael Oliver managed the City and Liverpool game really well (other than the penalty, but I guess there was contact).
Agree, I don't believe the man City penna should have been given. Need to stamp out this **** about a touch is enough to go down
Dean sent Souchek(?) For a foul against Mitrovitch... Mitrovitch to his credit said it was not a sending off offence...Dean ever the I must be the centre of attention.. .ignored him and still sent him off. On review the decision has been reversed. You would have thought at least VAR could get offside right. They draw the lines to a few millimetres, do they ever consider the problem about when the pass was made? There is probably a few seconds from a first foot/head touch by the passer to it actually leaving his foot/head... that in my view means a few inches of grey area. If they utilised that fact, then offsides would only be given when clearly offside..
No matter how bad they are, there is no justification whatsoever for death threats. I hope they are caught and dealt with severely.
VAR isn't doing the referees any favours, nor are the TV stations imo. Endlessly replaying incidents seems like mini-trials after which the the pundits hand out their verdicts. Football is supposed to be spontaneous and passionate, not Crown Court.
VAR is turning out to be a total pigs breakfast, the latest rule changes don't help either, why do they have to keep changing them, the off-side rule used to be plain and simple, now its so complicated its ridiculous. The goal line technology is fine, the rest needs to be changed or scrapped altogether.
i was never one who wanted VAR, i just had the feeling it would cause as many problems as it 'cures' but, due to the statement that it was to be used only 'for clear and obvious errors' i figured if it cured some/all of the cheating and diving then it will be worth the odd stoppage along the way. instead it has turned into a 'would not be obvious under a feckin microscope/every time a goal is scored/may be a penalty shout/etc etc' whine fest for the pundits and the public alike...offside used to be offside, it was never the easiest of the rules to comprehend but the refs and linesmans understood it all, handball was if the hand was used to gain control of the ball...now we seem to have players who are in an offside position but they are not classed as being offside and if they are not interfering with play they are not offside or if the play is moved to the next phase they are not offside and how the holy hell can someone be millimeters offside ffs?...handball is no longer a penalty unless the arm is in an 'unatural position' or there was not enough distance between the ball being struck and the hand or if the ball bounced off some other part of the body then onto the hand, no mention of using the hands to gain control of the ball...the game is going to pot and the refs (who whined about people having a go at them because sky pundits were showing 1000 different angles in super-mega slow motion) have continued to show strong bias if and when required to make sure they get a couple of mentions during the game. time for a massive rethink of how to use VAR if we are keeping it.
