Several charges against former Kerry footballer Darragh OâSe have been dropped by the DPP. The former Kerry footballer Darragh OâSe, 37, whose address is listed as 5 Mounthawk Manor, Tralee, had faced charges of drink driving, dangerous driving, having no insurance and no driving licence. He was stopped by Garda Deirdre Barry on February 3 last on the N7, at Blackchurch, Kill, Co. Kildare. But when the case was called yesterday, Wednesday, March 27 at Naas District Court, Chief Superintendent Pat Mangan told Judge Desmond Zaidan that the cases against the famous footballer were being withdrawn, on the instructions of the DPP. âWhy?â the judge asked. Chief Superintendent Mangan explained documents had been shown to Gardai to indicate that Mr. OâSeâs insurance and driving licence were in order. The charges of dangerous driving and drink driving were withdrawn for âprocedural reasonsâ. Mr. OâSeâs solicitor Conal Boyce told the court that it may not be the last time the matter came before the court. And he said that the move had followed submissions from him. The defendant was not in court to hear the charges being withdrawn. âShould he at least appear,â the Judge asked, but Mr. Boyce explained that he was not there on his advice and that âthere was no suggestion of any disrespect to the courtâ. âThese are two serious allegations,â Judge Zaidan noted. âI just donât understand it.â He then asked if he would dismiss the matters âwithout prejudiceâ. But Chief Superintendent Mangan said he was withdrawing the charges. âThatâs the instructions I have from the DPP.â Judge Zaidan struck out the charges, but said: âI donât know what these procedural reasons are.â
This is another example of why the Gardai are considered scum by the vast majority of the country. That would never, ever happen to an ordinary joe soap.
Im sure he did but when the cases were withdrawn "on the instructions" of the dpp then there is nothing else he can do.
