Seriously Dave this Virtual race I’m doing is great motivation.....I’ve done a couple of earlier morning 6km+ but when I’ve seen that my bruv, who is also doing it, has run 10km it’s motivated me to get out again and do another 4.5 km. That’s 21.27km done in 2 days and planning on another 10km tomorrow. It’s good to see your progress and comparison to others...a bit of healthy competition.
I've got a bit of that...for me it's all trying to get back to fitness after shoulder surgery a while ago. I message times to a WhatsApp group and one brother is quite encouraging, but after my first (very slow) post-op run, Dad and the other brother were pretty critical. You are right that the mocking and encouragement are both good motivation.
I'm walking 8-10km a day at the moment, which around here is hard graft as it's very hilly. My knees are seriously ****ed from years of abuse running and jumping out of aircraft, so I find it difficult and painful to run anymore.
Have never been a runner really, but lockdown (and a bit of ‘motivation’ from a cousin) got me doing the ‘couch to 5k’. Week 8 (of 9) and hitting almost 6k. It’s been an interesting build up and I’m rather surprised how well it’s gone so far. First target is a sub 30min 5k which is not too far away. Then we’ll see from there. Luckily the studio is in a country/rural area and gives enough suitable areas to build up. Am I enjoying it? Ermmm ... well I think I’m enjoying the challenge more than the running; the programme is good and it is having a positive impact on fitness and weight, so not complaining (too much ). Hope the shoulder gets better RTID. Have seen some real dickhead cyclists around the roads since lockdown - Some very worrying; some very annoying (and I’m sure you are neither RTID )
Thats seriously good work mate.....totting up my total I’ve ran 33 km in the last 3 days since the challenge started. Had a bit of a fright last week when the GP says I’m now prediabetic and got high cholesterol. Don’t wanna go the same way as the old man who died from a cardiac arrest at 59 so upping the exercise and trying to stop the cakes, biscuits and chocolate. Should help I hope.
Have they put you on a statin mate? All those things are fixable with a healthy lifestyle. Stick to it!
To be honest G, I’m hoping the exercise and eating less **** is gonna put it back to where I want the level to be.....Statins have got a few side effects so trying to keep off them if possible
One thing that’s easy enough to do and I can’t recommend highly enough is downloading myfitnesspal and logging what you eat and drink. Even better if you plan it out each morning. Massively helps me hit my protein goal (turns out I was getting more than enough mostly anyway) and staying under my calories. Also it’s a bit of a guilt trip to help avoid eating **** in the evening if I’m already at where I’m meant to be for the day.
Agree totally......I’ve used it before and found it very good. My problem has always been having all the snacks in the house that the kids eat, biscuits being the worst. Been making an effort to cut back and feel a lot better for it.
Smashed 50km of walking for the week yesterday - just shy of 55km in total.....now if I could cut down on the beer I'd have a chance of shifting a bit of weight off
I was 12st 9 at start of lockdown and today weighed in at 11st 8.5 which is less than I weighed in the early 90s. I was 13st 5 two years ago and in the car all day was not a good place to be but I cut out snacking for fruit instead and slowly got down to my pre lockdown weight. Since then regular healthier meals at set times, no snacking in between and averaging walking 4 miles a day, plus plenty of gardening and I'm probably healthier than at any time in the past 20 years...
Amazing...... Doctor has now put me on low dose Statin to help shed cholesterol at night. With less work since April, the body is obviously not working like it use to. Throw in acute arthritis is the feet and toes, walking distances is not an option for me. Good to hear how you people are doing and congratulations on your achievements.
Quite pleased with this...after cutting out snacking and running/cycling quite a lot, I've come back from holiday around 6kg (13 pounds) lighter, and just done a personal best 10km in just under 58 minutes.
