Meetings and training courses for a new project I'm starting in a few weeks. Just a quick down tomorrow and back up home Weds evening. Only found out about it all in Friday. Will defo need to sort out a get-together sometime - Wembley?
Ponced around in Cov this evening and found a niche burger joint - The Lazy Monkey. Not really big on burgers, but there wasn't too much about - got to say, I was quite impressed with the scran. Korean Spicy Chicken Wings, Chicken Bro Burger and spicy fries - tasty. Pity I'm on Dry January, as the beer selection looked pretty good too! Couple of minutes walk from the main railway station - worth it if you're in town @Hoop-Leif or @sb_73 before the Cov match http://www.thelazymonkey.co.uk/the-lazy-monkey/
Nowt poncey about my grub tonight....25th Jan is Burns Night, so started off with some Irn Bru pakora... Followed by the "chieftan of the pudding race" - a Champion Haggis from our local butcher, who has won multiple awards for their haggis over the years Served with tatties and neeps, and drizzled in a whisky cream sauce, all washed down with Irn Bru. Presentation not my strong point!!
Hello fellow foodies.......i'm doing a dish tomorrow that includes a cannellini bean stew that the recipe says includes 300ml of stock. The dish is with pork chops. It doesn't actually state which kind of stock though.... pork stock is apparently difficult to buy and I ain't got time to make my own broth!! So my question is....which stock complements pork the best? Chicken? Beef? Or veg?
You can buy pork stock cubes from most supermarkets (Aldi definately do - yellow box with pink trim) but failing that use a veg stock.
Look at the salt content of that! Those of us looking after our blood pressure (ie us two) should avoid at all costs
Thanks guys. It's weird, when I looked on Sainsburys and Asda's websites there was no sign of pork stock cubes. Popping into Aldis this afternoon but yeah, the salt content is a tad concerning.....think it may be veg stock after all
Saturdays nosh - A cannellini bean stew with garlic, onion, tomato, chorizo and Kale, seasoned with smoky paprika. Topped with griddled pork chops. Served with a nice, crisp Chenin Blanc.
Had the pleasure (?) of being stuck in Tain tonight....never stayed here before, and was pretty gutted the local (only) curry house was shut so ended up at a bar/ restaurant at the railway station (it was that or a Tesco sandwich, so not much choice). Plumped for the special, Chicken Balmoral - chicken breast stuffed with haggis, served with clapshot and seasonal veg - lush - and topped with a whisky sauce. Washed down with several pints of San Mig - happy days!
Fridays nosh - Dorset pork shoulder and cider casserole with mustard, lardons, celery, shallots, onion and sage. Served with garlic butter and black pepper mash and fresh crusty bread. Recommend this one, well tasty!
First sunny day of spring so a healthy lunch today! Mixed salad leaves tossed in a toasted peanut, garlic and red chilli dressing, topped with fried cumin-turmeric marinated paneer and a sprinkle of red chillies and pomegranate. Served with coriander naans and a crisp lager Shandy. This is a real tasty dish! The spice of the paneer, the heat from the chillies, the freshness from the pomegranate juice....and all with a hint of peanut. Recommended. Though would say to make plenty of the dressing.....I didn't quite get it right so dish was a tad drier than I would have liked. Next time I'll rectify that!
Special meal for the wife on mothers day. Cod loins coated with a warm, chilli pesto, parsley and breadcrumb topping sitting atop baked, herbed parmentier potatoes. Served with steamed tenderstem broccoli and lemon wedges for garnish. Oh, and a lovely chardonnay on the side. Came out well, this one! Bloody loving this cooking lark
Meeting the mother of house’s requests- prawn ceviche, home made guacamole, salsa, chipotle sweet potato and chicken wings. Kitchen smelling great, coriander in everything.
