Swiss daily Le Matin reports that Johan Djourou has signed a 2-year contract extension with us.

    source: http://news.arseblog.com/2012/02/djourou-signs-2-year-contract-extension/

How do we feel about this? Whilst Djourou hasn't been all that impressive over the last year i think he deserves a bit longer to see if he can get back to his best so I am in favour of it.

Suppose he is not a bad squad player. He did do well last season at CB. He can be our O'Shea or West Brown.

Is he an injury prone type player? Will he continue to be an injury prone player? I hope Arsenal FC has done its homework on Dujourou. The quality of the deal depends on this. He's decent but not class. He is a decent squad player.

he's young for a CB, is apparently happy being 4th choice, and an extension means no higher wages. I say...bargain. He's great as a 4th choice and is only going to improve over time.

Its not bad when you think about having someone like him as a 4th choice CB. And if Miquel develops then someone like Djourou will be our 5th choice CB. Could do worse.

Decent enough squad player and quite versatile. I think he's worth keeping on.

I never liked Djourou since he said that pampering himself with creams was his favorite pastime. Since then every time he says on TV that he has to be more ruthless ( and he said it at least twice) , I imagine Djourou pampering himself with creams (was it Dove or Oil of Ulay?) and thinking "I must be more ruthless".

And btw, I have read that he is now on 60K, don't know if it is true.

I wish you hadn't mentioned the creams, but Id keep him. He is a bit of a streaky player, but during his good streaks he has really been excellent. Fantastic record for the Swiss and for us the first half of last year.

The guy has what it takes to be good which is more than half the battle. As people say, who is going to replace him? You really think Samba is going to come in and fight for a place on Djourou's salary?

He is also home grown (I think) which is a plus.

Its because of the creams he has bad positional sense and keeps falling over.

I'm really disappointed with Djourou, I really thought he would kick on and become a great CB.

  11. hmm. At a time when we need to free up wages that we spend on deadwood, I find this surprising. Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker are all ahead of him, and we have Miquel and Bartley coming through, with Song also well able to play CB. Djourou is too weak and frankly brain dead under pressure. Cant believe the club think he has done enough for a contract extension.

If it is true it shows also that Arsenal do indeed renegotiate contracts mid season, so why no news on RVP?

Sure. Gay people, KY jelly. Hil-ar-ious.

And we wonder why gay footballers are terrified of coming out.

As CB No. 4, I'm quite happy to keep him.
We won't find anyone who could be as good as him and still be happy with being 4th choice.
He had an excellent run last year.

How many "innocent jokes" would a footballer who came out as being gay expect to receive, exactly?

Jokes aren't so innocent in such a hostile climate.

Why is it that because he pampers himself with creams he must be gay?

Sell him. He's useless, makes too many mistakes. A disaster waiting to happen
