I'd go with a second string. Honestly, I think it's very hypocritcal to deride other clubs winning the milk cup, then start to claim we want to win it now when we're third. Darlow/Karius Manquillo - Lascelles - Burn - Targett Longstaff - Shelvey - Anderon Fraser - Wood - Murphy Right now, Chelsea is the game I want to win.
I've not derided it. I've always been frustrated that we've not given it a proper go in the past, usually failing miserably by playing our B team. My prediction for this season was mid table and a good cup run. Hopefully I'm totally wrong about the final league position, but no reason to throw the towel in on the cup.
Perfectly fine to do all five at once. The only restriction is that the five subs have to be made over a maximum of three stoppages to prevent teams time wasting/breaking up the play too much.
Ok fair enough so start him instead of Murphy and get Joelinton back in for a half’, swap with Willock or Bruno at 60 mins or so. I’m not going to have a meltdown if it’s a team like this. Would love to progress, but with our league standing I’ll forgive Eddie if we go out then beat Chelsea.
That's because we don't play a 4-2-3-1. You also thought Bruno was a ****ing attacking midfielder n all not so long ago. Christ his song is the Geordie Maradonna. When the **** did Diego ever play on the wing?
It's a cup, a doorway into Europe and more important than finishing 5th, 6th, 7th or whatever. If it were this cup and a lower finish or finishing 4th I'd be probably tempted by the former and suspect it's easier to achieve. Plenty of managers have made a point of "winning that first trophy" and I recall both Mourinho (when trying to establish Chelsea) and Pep making a point that it's an important cup as you need to start actually winning things rather than challenging. I'd be playing 8+ of our first team 11.
Agree 1 million per cent. I do worry he will use this as an excuse to give game time to the likes of Lascelles and Shelvey rather than just going all out for the win. We struggled to break these down just a few weeks back as they sat back so deep and we lacked creative ideas. Can see them ****housing this one all the way to the penalty spot.
Joelinton was suspended vs Soton, so it seems like the perfect opportunity to start him this game. Your midfield above is too lightweight and needs someone like Joey in there. And move Anderson on to the wing and get Fraser. And although Darlow is obviously a second rate keeper, he's got to start, in really not happy with Karius anywhere near the first team.
Meh. They both need someone around them, ie Laecelles needs Burn or Schar, and Joelinton has to play if we're starting Shelvey. We need someone in the middle controlling midfield, the centre of the team can't be Shelvey with his 100 yard passes from the centre circle.
I'd actually go with this on further thought - Chelsea at home is a far more important game, and since Wood got his goal and Wilson shouldn't be risked unless necessary, I'd go with thebelow. I'd bring Anderson on at some point, but get the job done first. Play Shelvey in the CM role spreading the ball. I'd play Fraser RW as he can actually cross. ASM-----------Wood--------------Fraser ---Joelinton--------------Longstaff------ ----------------Shelvey------------ Targett-----Burn-----Lascelles-----Manquillo --------------------Darlow---------------------
Why play Darlow? Keepers don't need a rest, if Dubravka was here maybe, the drop off in quality to Darlow is too big. Who cares if Darlow becomes unhappy. I want to win.
