We didn't have much quality on the pitch but defended well and created chances to win the game. We weren't good enuugh to convert them. We know the second string isn't good enough. Our first eleven is probably good enough to stay up - just. Our squad isn't though.
I don't think you've understood my views from the start tbh. I stand by them.... We can't win a cup, so he should have used the kids to see if anyone of them has anything about them... Going out is ideal..... Its about staying up not fruitless Cup runs to make Bruce look good
I'm still waiting for answers on when bruve can give the young players a run out.. I mean we've lost plenty and rafas to blame for that also
I understand you wanted him to play the Under 23 squad instead of the first team squad. I don't agree with that but understand it, though I'm not sure he was allowed to without a certain number of unavailable players. (He might have been allowed - I genuinely don't know). He didn't have the option of mixing the two squads though as that isn't allowed this year because of the bubble rules. I don't understand what you wanted him to do differently during the game once he had the team he had though.
He was too happy to take a respectable loss and never had a go. I already said he took off two attackers with 20 mins to go and put one and another defender on and then he committed suicide bringing Carroll off... Carroll is a crap striker but he was causing problems. We lost the game with that one. He's learned nothing we're out though that's the main thing
Carroll was dead on his feet so had to come off. I agree he had been our best player up to that point. Almiron was also knackered and if he had got injured by staying on we would all have been complaining. Joelinton was largely inneffective and not adding anything.
Honestly bruces football There we go... If he played the kids and had a go? We never do it and we should because we can't afford to give them a chance in league games until 40 points is on the board and I repeat we have no chance whatsoever of winning one of the cups. Zero... None of you will be sat in pubs talking about good cup runs. Its actually embarrassing in my mind . No way I'm going to reduce myself to celebrating failure
I'm not sure he was allowed to use the Under 23 squad with enough first team players available. (again he may have been, I'm not sure, but I suspect not). What he couldn't do was mix the two squads in the same way you are allowed to in a normal year because of the bubble rules.
Well if not fair enough, but I'm pretty sure he could've played 4 or 5... I'm basically sick of seeing these **** players failing.... I mean we know they're simply not good enough and never will be so logic tells me you should try something new. Anyway at least Sunderland are losing in league one mate
It's been one of our major faults as a club for years. Not blooding youngsters and choosing to play first teamers out of position instead. I think we share some of the blame for that though as we can be a very unforgiving crowd when players make mistakes - which kids will do.
I quite enjoyed that. Backs to the wall against a decent side, and twice we could have nicked it. Carrol was marvellous, ran around like a youngster and on a better day could have had two. Loads of effort tonight, the same in the remaining games and we’ll be fine.
Nice to see the VAR ref was Andre Marriner who direct the ref to change his mind Marriner who sent Mitro off against Arsenal at St James' for a studs showing tackle he also didn't send off Alexander-Arnold when he handballed on the goal line when we played Liverpool he was also the ref that sent Shelvey off for standing on Deli Ali's toes seems to be selective reffing by Marriner
