Wherever he comes from Mick he still represented Ireland - and we'll do everything we can to disasociate ourselves from him becaise he's an eejit. Apologies for the use of "Taig" btw- it was a bit rude really.

If England do go out, at least all the other British nations will step up to the 'plate'... oh wait...

Good point whoever said we should've man-marked Pirlo. The only time I've ever seen him anything less than brilliant was against United in 2010. Fergie put Park Ji Sung on him and Pirlo hardly had a kick. But I don't think Woy wanted to be slated again for being negative as in Euro 12.

As for Rooney, he should be played in his best position, as an out-and-out striker. He's had his best seasons for us (2006/10/12) when that's where he's played. Sturridge and Welbeck drift wide a lot anyway, so why not play our top goalscorer in his best position?

All in all, I think England did alright. Italy are obviously a class act, and they hardly embarrassed us. A bit more "quality" (seemingly the buzz-word amongst the pundits these days) in the final third and we'd have got a point.

I was backing your point that most English fans appear to be realistic..

In my experience most England fans are as realistic/optimistic as anyone else, including Scotland fans, the problem is the media whose nauseating sycophancy and sheer bias turns most Scots off. It's them who give a false impression of what your average Englishman thinks of England's chances.

But only a spastic would assume that the opinions of the English media are representative of the whole population.

Nothing wrong with fans being optimistic and the media talking up their chances, but why does every half time show need to be dedicated to England?

That's nothing to do with the fans though Eric, the pundits on these shows are by and large tossers who are best ignored...apart from a few notable exceptions.

Because it's the home broadcaster. I'm sure it's exactly the same in every other participating nation.
