The inaugural UEFA nations league will commence in September, largely doing away with meaningless friendlies. England is in group 4 of the “A” league along with Spain and Croatia. Group winners advance to the knockout phase, and the bottom ranked team in the group is relegated to the “B” league for the next tournament. How will England fare?
It is directly linked to Euro 2020 qualifying, but isn’t the only route. It remains to be seen if this is taken seriously and becomes another major, or if will be just a confederations cup type waste of time. Still, more than one season are definitely a go and I doubt any of the nations in the “A” league wa t to get get relegated for the upcoming season.
I would hope it’s taken a bit more seriously by the teams. It should given it’s the secondary route for Euro qualifying and, as mentioned if a bigger nations slips in a qualifying group stage and finds themselves eliminated via group qualifying, they’ll definitely turn out to play here. There’s also a pride factor of the bigger nations maintaining their place in the “A” league.
Ah crap... so the same ****e as the Europy then? Bollox to that EDIT: Mind you I'm always a bit disappointed when Holland miss out on tournaments.
