After their amazing performance in June the successful England team have rightfully moved from tenth to fourth in the rankings, Brazil have moved out of the top ten after not playing any games when England were playing. Spain are still top but England aree catching up:emoticon-0111-blush, thats made my day

If ever confirmation was needed that the world rankings are a load of rubbish, this is it.

I know people who have never watched a game of footballl before the euros that could name 4 teams clearly better than england (possibly even discluding the semi finalists!!!

    Load of bunkem...

When you look at the stats it's not that surprising, since the 4-1 defeat in 2010 England have lost 2 games (both international friendlies), drawn 6 (1 international friendly, and including the game against Italy) and won 13 (6 international friendly, one of them against world cup holders Spain). so considering the ranking system based on results and not on the actual football we play, we deserve to be in the top 5 at least.

So basically this shows we are undefeated in competitive football since 2010 and should carry on being undefeated till 2014 with the easy WC qualifying group (Poland, Ukraine, Montenegro, San Marino and Moldova) Poland could are the biggest threat but we should have enough to beat them.

Interesting point - but surely the importance of the game should be considered? Beating little boys 5-1 in qualifying should not carry the same weight as a 3-0 victory in a major tournament against france (for example). IM not trying to say we have a bad team - but no progression past the quarterfinals of any major tournament and no knockout victory against any other 'big' football nations in a generation flies in the face of a 'top 4 in the world' tag surely?

I think you can make a good case for England being fourth in the world providing you're prepared to ignore common sense, and England fans are ranked number one at that.

It goes to show that the rankings are rubbish - but then that's par for the course if FIFA/UEFA are involved
However, they are important because the idiots in charge of the world game actually use them - e.g for seedings in tournaments
If you did a straw poll of fans in this country how many would rank ourselves in the top 5

Baloney, friendly matches should not count, they should not even count as first class games, never watch any class of friendly football matches, and they have the cheek to count the goals in a players career total, they do not count in club friendlies.

It always amazes me how the FIFA rankings are only ever wrong when England either move up or stay where they are. :/
