I must admit I didn't see Czech Republic getting through the group never mind winning it a couple of weeks ago!
This thread has got so Saintsy. Thought Shaw was our best player, Reece James on the opposite side was very slow and negative. Luckily we have a dozen or so more right backs.
Harry Kane isn't firing. If only we had another natural finisher in the squad who's scored nearly as many goals as him over the last couple of seasons. I'm sure there's someone but the name escapes me.
Ings has been too injured this year so it’s understandable why he wasn’t picked. Can’t risk taking a fragile player to a tournament Wouldn’t be starting Kane in the next game, mind.
He also looked lethargic and leggy. A fit and firing Harry Kane makes things happen, much like Ings does for us.
I thought DCL should have had the last half hour. Main thing was Foden going off and Sterling staying on. Unbelievable.
I don`t think England played that badly, rather Scotland got their tactics right. MoM for me was Grant Hanley - an unfashionable player, but what a performance tonight. Foden went down in my estimation for making card-waving gestures to the ref. I think England can progress a long way in this competition.
I don't, because Southgate is tactically (and motivationally it seems) hopeless. You're right, Scotland absolutely got their tactics right tonight, but with the talent at his disposal, Southgate should have been able to counter that. People seem to have been confused that because we bored our way to a World Cup semi final, against a litany of pretty bad teams, that he and we are somehow half decent. We're not really. We just about beat a past it Croatian team, and drew to a brave and motivated Scottish team tonight. But when it comes down to it, that's a team led by a striker that doesn't score much for QPR and a (decent) striker who doesn't score all that much for Southampton. Scotland should have won that tonight, but didn't quite manage it because of that front line. England are a bog average team, with some very talented players. That's some combo of managerial failure.
Truth is somewhere inbetween, we do have the quality of players to challenge at the top table, but we have a manager who for all of his good qualities isn’t up to the task when it comes to selection and tactics.
Enjoyed this in a way and that performance will do the Scots no harm. Che MOTM England played with 7 defensive players plus Kane who never saw the ball and Sterling who clearly doesn’t want to lose the ball and get booed. So that left a big job for Mount and Foden. Then when he brought Grealish on (too late) he took Foden off! And I want Grealish to be free to roam. He was clearly told to stand out n the touchline. So easy to deal with. Especially when you’ve lost Foden from the other side Southgate is the FAs man, so dull. I love the way he creates a good environment with players but YAWN he loves a clean sheet Well done Scotland Such a lot of talent for England and yet YAWN ... Sorry I think I fell asleep there
