So after winning their first ever World Cup penalty shoot out and their first penalty shoot out in any competition for 22 yrs the country has been hailing the Spurs heroes and Rashford (who took penalties)

thanks to @humanbeingincroydon for this image that sums up all true fans feelings <whistle>

    Was good to see Pickford respond calmly to the criticism he had previously received after the Belgium match. In his post match interview he quoted Florence Nightingale saying that;

"everyone has the right to judge but let he who judges me harshly before must tonight
SUCK MY BIG HAIRY BALLS COS YOU MO FOS NOW LOOK FECKING STOOPID!"

After 2 days of celebrations attention has now turned to the quarter final match v Sweden.

England have a poor record v the Swedish having only beaten them once in finals in the past 30 years. They also won the biggest battle in the past 50 years when Abba humiliated the English wannabes called the brotherhood of man by having hit after hit.
Abba were by far the more interesting group...one was a recluse due to being harrassed by a stalker... she eventually married someone who turned out to be the stalker <yikes>... another found out her beloved father had been a Nazi SS officer <yikes><yikes>

This match will see the winner takes it all.

Dele Alli is fit again and has sent a begging letter to Southgate saying "take a chance on me" and asking if he trusted him, to which Southgate replied "I do I do I do" and went on to say "but when all is said and done" he sighed .... "I do not know how to drop money money money (Stirling ... geddit?)"

Kane then played a captain's role and had that discussion with squad, saying "knowing me , knowing you...I have to ask a question..."

"everyone starting against Sweden take one step forward, oi Stirling...where the feck you going?" :bandit:

When asked why Dier was brought on v Columbia (are the spelling Nazi's happy now? <grr>)
Southgate said that every team needed a fighter and that Dier was a super trooper.

Sweden are known for pickling fish...inventing a huge and Poncey diy shop...and supplying 98% of the worlds porn.

They have in fairness produced many great footballers such as Zat,
Lan, Abbra, himovic, Britt, Eckland, sesame, street, chef to name just 9.

England's main tactic will be to keep Stirling as far away from the ball as possible and hope that the Swedish defenders are as retarded as the Panoma and Columbia ones when corners are flung in.

the match is Sunday 7pm <whistle>

I have to say it's tricky even getting into a shoot out if you leave in the Group stage.

lol thought this was the PL board.

You can't praise the players from your own club when they play well for England..it's a PL board unwritten rule it seems for the WC <laugh>

The stat that may worry England more than their poor record against Sweden may be that 12/14 teams who won a shootout in the World Cup lost their next game. It may be that a team that wheezes across the line on fumes needs more than five days to fill up the tank. Southgate hasn't dropped anyone, iirc, outside of Dele due to injury and most versus Belgium. I wonder if he will now. Good cases can be made for dropping Walker (need to cut out the crucal gaffes), Young (need more width), Henderson (need to hire an acting coach), Dele (need to rest his leg), Lingard (need to find someone who'll do more) and Sterling (need to come to our senses). I'd put in Dier for Walker, Rose for Young, RLC for Dele and Rashford for Sterling. On the other hand, maybe the reason you start Sterling is to make sure there's no way he'll take a pen.

If I was manager [yeah, i know], I would have thoughts about saving some of our players' until 60 minutes, especially some of the pacier ones. It's going to be a searingly hot day and Sweden are going to work themselves to death closing us down. if Sterling's going to positively affect the game, I think that it's much more likely to be when they're tiring and his ability to run with the ball [his only real ability?] is likely to open them up and draw fouls, yellow and red cards and maybe, a penalty? So, start with Rashford and get him to run at them and try and get beyond Kane.

Also, start with Young and swap left wing backs after an hour, to give time for Rose's better attacking play to take effect without risking his fitness issues. Do the same with RLC starting for Dele, who continues to look less than fully fit but offers so much more of a goal threat. Bring those 3 on at the hour mark and it'll test their fitness levels and powers of concentration. Our performance needs to be geared to hitting them hardest when they're weakest rather than exhausting our somewhat talents when they're strongest.

Or I could just be losing it in this heat............

I suspect they won't do that as much as setting a
formation to force the England headless chickens
with no ball control to run into the possession-losing
    brick walls.

Though in the case of Sterling, he will find those walls
even in places that Sweden have not put them.

I think the Swedes are too organised and canny to waste too much time closing us down and harassing us. They will do it at some point but pick and choose when to. We have to be that as well..... though I think England players are more likely to lose discipline and chase them down if we don't see the ball for more than 2 minutes. This could end up be a very dull game as two teams face of against each other to see who will blink first.

Sterling spent much of the previous game in advance of Harry contributing absolutely nothing as usual. "He doesn't score enough goals" we say. But even though no England player in that position probably has a worse goal ratio we find that as an attacker that apparently isn't his job! No, apparently he uses his pace and skill to make space for others to score. Except that of coursre we've only scored one proper goal from open play, so that isn't really working either is it! Anyone start to think that people are just making up excuses? And now we hear calls to drop Dele, which I kind of agree with - except that we haven't really seen him in the team *without* Sterling because a lot of the time Sterling is playing where Dele is used to being, plus of course he's far more used to playing with Harry. I do like Southgate but this Sterling thing has become a total mystery. Even a few pundits who go against the trend and a couple of games ago were saying we should give Sterling one more chance now seem to have shut up even though he clearly didn't take it. So he doesn't score, doesn't contribute more than a few others could do in that position but is picked regardless. Clearly people with more footballing knowledge than me can see something I can't, but I would love to know what it is.

  19. Well said :emoticon-0148-yes:
Agree 100% with this and have been banging on in less eloquent form for some time now! <laugh>

Still hoping Southgate will see sense and consider Sterling as a bench option when at least his pace against a tiring defence might be useful.
Not holding out much hope, mind.

I am not convinced that these so called experts are right, most people on here would agree with you that Sterling contributes virtually nothing to this England team. I also think you are spot on when you say he takes up an area where Dele could be operating. He plays for Man City don't forget and Guardiola is his manager (Emperors new clothes IMO) Even on the occasions when I have watched City I don't see that much from him except running with the ball. Shearer has criticised him. Southgate does appear to be doing a much better job than most of his predecessors but they all have at east one blind spot (so we think) He had the balls to drop the ineffective Rooney but not it seems Sterling.

Did you see Sven Goran Erikson identify Kane & Sterling as the two England threats. You wonder if they actually watch the football at all.
